For the first time since 2003, Jamie McMurray will not be in the field when NASCAR returns to Auto Club Speedway in three weeks for the Auto Club 400. While that means Southern California race fans will not see him at the track, they’ll be able to view him on television as one of the hosts on RaceHub on Fox Sports. McMurray was in the top 10 in eight of the 16 times he competed in Cup races at Fontana. His best finish was fourth in 2004 and 205 for Chip Ganassi, and had three sixth-place showing...

Scalable and safe synthetic organic electroreduction inspired by Li-ion battery chemistry

Reductive electrosynthesis has faced long-standing challenges in applications to complex organic substrates at scale. Here, we show how decades of research in lithium-ion battery materials, electrolytes, and additives can serve as an inspiration for achieving practically scalable reductive electrosynthetic conditions for the Birch reduction. Specifically, we demonstrate that using a sacrificial anode material (magnesium or aluminum), combined with a cheap, nontoxic, and water-soluble proton sour...
