Search for an Author often fails

Before buying/getting a new eBook, I first do an author search in the Library to see if I already have it. This often fails because a click on the Authors column-heading in Library often responds to the author's first name rather the surname. For example, Jo Nesbo may appear as a 'J', Michael Connelly, as an 'M' and Bernard Cornwell, as a 'B'. As a result, I have sometimes obtained a book only to find, on trying the "Add Books", that I already have it in the library!! Thus, I need to check...

How Steph Cha’s ‘Your House Will Pay’ was inspired by a racially charged shooting and the LA Riots

Author Steph Cha had just finished the third book in her series about Juniper Song, a Korean-American private eye in Los Angeles, when a conversation on the radio captured her attention. The topic under discussion was the case of Latasha Harlins, an African-American teenager shot dead in 1991 in South Los Angeles by a Korean-American shopkeeper named Soon Ja Du. And Cha, 33, was shocked that she’d never heard about the killing. It was, along with the beating of Rodney King two weeks earlier, one...

Radio: KHJ made history itself by presenting ‘The History of Rock and Roll’ 50 years ago

Fifty years ago this weekend, the station that helped change radio forever presented a special that changed music history forever. It was Feb. 21, 1969 at 12 noon — the beginning of Washington’s Birthday holiday weekend — that KHJ (930 AM) presented “The History of Rock and Roll,” a 48-hour “rocumentary” that chronicled the events leading up to and through the evolution of popular music into Rock and Roll. Technically it wasn’t the first program to broach the subject. That distinction perhaps be...

How Michael Connelly’s ‘Murder Book’ podcast is a return to the novelist’s reporting roots

Before Michael Connelly became a best-selling author of 32 novels, many of them featuring the hard-nosed LAPD detective Harry Bosch, he was a police reporter, where he, equipped with little more than a pen and pad and passion for exposing the truth, explored the crimes of the city. He left that life long ago when the Bosch books started selling well enough he could afford to forgo his salary as a police reporter at the Los Angeles Times, and with more than 70 million copies of his books sold, an...
