Minnesota takes on Colorado on Wednesday, the final game before the All-Star break for both teams. With the puck was loose in front of the net, Jared Spurgeon sent a perfect pass to Coyle, who beat Vegas goaltender Marc-...

Ducks rookie Troy Terry scores 1st NHL goal, but had no idea

NEWARK, N.J. — Troy Terry wasn’t sure what happened. He shot the puck on net and it felt like a quality attempt as it left his stick. The crowd at the Prudential Center grew quiet and all of a sudden his Ducks teammates began skating toward him with smiles on their faces and their arms raised over their heads. Here’s what happened: Terry had scored his first NHL goal. It didn’t prompt much of a celebration from him because he wasn’t sure he had scored. “When I shot it, I tried to just shoot it t...

Matt Dumba's 'anger' led to indefinite stint on sidelines

Fans of the Minnesota Wild would have wished that Matt Dumba wouldn't have thrown a “wild punch” at Matthew Tkachuk in a game against the Calgary Flames on Dec. 15. Dumba, wearing a brace around his right arm, told reporters that he didn't feel the pain of the injury until he had a chance to calm down in the penalty box. Dumba's surgery came on Dec. 26 and along with it, a three-month timetable to return.

NHL Rumors: Senators, Red Wings, Hurricanes, More

In today’s rumor rundown, the Ottawa Senators are talking with their free agents and while things aren’t there yet, there are signs that deals might get done. The Detroit Red Wings have a number of free agents that could fetch a decent return but the team may choose to re-sign them and the Carolina Hurricanes trade for Nino Niederreiter is likely not the only move this team makes in the next couple weeks. Finally, could William Nylander be traded in the offseason? One former Maple Leafs GM seems...

Why Jake Gardiner Will Leave the Toronto Maple Leafs

Toronto Maple Leaf fans likely won’t agree, but Jake Gardiner is a really good hockey player. If you don’t think so, watch what happens when he becomes an unrestricted free agent after his contract ends this summer. Teams will line up to sign him, and he will accept one of those offers, for good money. There is no question Gardiner will leave the Maple Leafs, but it won’t be because the team doesn’t want him. They simply won’t be able to afford him, nor will he be inclined to stay. The tea...

Analyzing the Ducks’ Transaction Frenzy

It’s been a wild week so far in Anaheim Ducks country and amazingly, they’ve only played two games. The action has been more intense on the Ducks’ roster than on the ice. General manager Bob Murray has gone on a trading spree that has received mixed reaction among fans and media, the best of which came from Yahoo Sports’ Pete Blackburn. The Anaheim Ducks Won Their First Game Since December 17th

from Elliott Teaford of the OC Register, The streak died a noisy death Thursday night at Xcel Energy Center. Josh Manson laid a bear hug on John Gibson when the final horn sounded and the Ducks roared off their bench to celebrate a 3-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild, their first win in more than a month. Later, Tupac Shakur’s “California Love” boomed out over the sound system in the Ducks’ dressing room, the first time it’s been heard since after a Dec. 17 victory over the Pittsburgh...

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Ducks general manager Bob Murray worked the late shift Wednesday night, re-acquiring Derek Grant from the Pittsburgh Penguins and adding Michael Del Zotto from the Vancouver Canucks in separate trades as he continued to alter the course of the struggling team. Morning Line- Jim Souhan On The Minnesota Wild

The Wild is back to its teasing, taunting ways, following an unpredictably strong stretch of hockey with unsightly losses to Detroit and Philadelphia. The Wild are hanging around the fringes of the wild-card playoff race without inspiring much hope that they could accomplish much should they make the postseason. They are old. They have large amounts of money committed to older players. They are paying $3 million or more to 11 players on the current roster. -Jim Souhan of the Star Tri...

What the Flames Need at the Deadline

After a 7-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Jan. 13, the Calgary Flames won their 30th game of the season — seven short of their win total from a season ago — and stretching their record to 30-13-4 through 47 games. They are in the top spot of the Pacific Division as well as the Western Conference and rank second in the NHL behind the Tampa Bay Lightning. People thought the Flames would improve over their 37-35-10 record from 2017-18 and many would have said they’d be a playoff team as...

Backlund’s Game Rounding Into Form Nicely

The Calgary Flames have enjoyed the luxury of having major offensive weapons to rely on during what’s been an outstanding 2018-19 campaign so far. The bad news for the rest of their Western Conference counterparts is that one of their understated depth scorers, Mikael Backlund, is starting to contribute more consistently. Backlund hit the score sheet with his tenth goal of the season in a 5-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche to kick off the Flames’ latest homestand on a positive note. The 29-year...

Bruins Benefiting from Rask’s Resurgence

It was a tumultuous first half to the season for Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask, to say the least. What’s more? The early struggles followed an increasingly frustrating pattern of poor play, dating back to last season, forcing the Black & Gold to rely on the backup to their incumbent No. 1 netminder. From the 2018-19 opening night fiasco in Washington against the Capitals when Rask allowed five goals on 24 shots before being mercifully removed to the final game before the Christmas break i...

Rask Approaching Bruins Greatness

There’s simply no player more polarizing in recent Boston Bruins’ history than Tuukka Rask. For fans of any of the other 30 teams in the NHL, that may not seem correct. As far as the rest of the league is concerned, players like Brad Marchand, Milan Lucic, among others, have been lightning rods for criticism despite their importance to the Bruins each and every game.
