Macaques have colonized a city in Thailand and converted a movie theatre into a cemetery

The city of Lopburi om Thailand has allegedly been overrun by gangs of wild macaques, resulting in several "no-go zones" for humans. As one resident told The Guardian: "We live in a cage but the monkeys live outside." The macaque population in Lopburi has doubled in just three years. The monkeys were frequently fed bananas by tourists, by after the coronavirus lockdowns began and tourism froze up, they were forced to seek alternative nutrition — typically junk food and fizzy drinks stolen fro...

A very angry macaque monkey on a motorcycle tried to steal a human child in Jakarta

I don't know anything about the context here except that Topeng Monyet — forcing macaques to wear human clothes and ride bicycles for entertainment — is a somewhat-common practice in Jakarta that's also (understandably) frowned upon by the animal rights community. When I frame it that way, I can kind of understand why this badass monkey is so pissed. (Just a heads-up: it's a strong, scary monkey going after a kid.) Move over, Florida Man, and make room for feral Florida monkeys with herpes

Back in 1938, a local Florida cruise operator called Colonel Tooey — "Colonel" was in fact his first name, according to the New York Times — let loose about a dozen rhesus macaque monkeys onto a man-made island inside Silver Springs State Park. According to National Geographic, Colonel had big plans to build a Tarzan-themed attraction there. But naturally, the monkeys escaped, and over the years, multiplied. The International Primate Protection League tried to keep their eye on them, and they (a...

Honda Continues to Expand & Improve its Lineup For 2020, Honda motorcycles has one of its best lineups in a while. Monkey Business: How Not to Get Bit by a Primate

Somewhere along our evolutionary adventure, we lost our sense of knowing where we stand on the scale of predator and prey. ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’ Remains a Powerful Parable About How We Remember Those We Love and Those We Lose

(To celebrate the release of Missing Link, we’re revisiting the stop-motion animated films of Laika this week and discussing why they’re so special. Today: Kubo and the Two Strings is a moving parable of love and remembrance.) Memory is a fragile, fickle, formative thing. It’s manipulable and elastic, but it’s also the base of our identities, the metric by which we measure our personal growth and change, the mechanism by which we form opinions and make judgments about the world. This is why we...

VIVE LA ÉVOLUTION. Viba’s Space Age Honda Monkey

Written by Martin Hodsgon The all new Honda Monkey was always going to be a sales success; packed full of nostalgia in an era of retro remakes, cheap to buy and easy to ride. Based around the framework of the Grom, the decision to make the Monkey must have been one of the easiest ever made at Honda headquarters. But little could they imagine that their entry-level commuter machine would so quickly be used as the basis for one of the most technologically advanced bikes we’ve ever featured on P...
