Riding motorcycles makes me grin from ear to ear. I’m sitting here recovering from a motorcycle accident I had a few days ago. After a few broken bones and a few days in hospital, a lot of people have asked if I will ride a motorcycle again. “Of course,” I reply, without even thinking about it. Because riding motorbikes make me happy. And the size of the bike doesn’t matter either. Today’s bike is a little bit different to what we usually feature, but I know one thing: this little Suzuki FR50 ...

Uber’s JUMP Bikes founder and Scoot’s SVP of Product are talking bikes and scooters at TC Sessions: Mobility

Micromobility — electric personal vehicles — has gone from being non-existent to ubiquitous across cities all over the world. Currently, we’re seeing micromobility take on the form of electric scooters and pedal-assist bikes. JUMP and Scoot operate in both of those categories. JUMP got its start as a pedal-assist bike-share startup, but has since evolved to handle electric scooters. And while Scoot’s first product from 2012 was an electric moped, it got its feet wet with bikes back in May 201...

Check Out the Suru Electric Moped

Pedals and Electric Power The idea of the moped has been around for a long time. Basically, it’s a bike somewhere between a motorcycle and bicycle with both pedals and another form of power. In the past, it’d been a small internal combustion engine, but now we’re seeing electric versions. We reported on the Onyx mopeds not too long ago and now the company Suru has entered the game. Suru is known for racing an electric superbike called the Amarok, according to Clean Technica. Now, the company is...

Are These Onyx Electric Mopeds the Perfect Urban Commuter Bikes?

Pedals and Electric Power Mopeds were popular machines in the 1970s and 80s, but over time the bicycle/motorcycle bike fell out of style. Now, they’re quite uncommon. You see either scooters or motorcycles, but the pedal moped is a rarity on the road. That may change in the future thanks to ONYX Motorbikes. ONYX Motorbikes got its start where many good ideas go, Indigogo. After raising about $1 million, Tim Seward, the founder of the company, and his team have delivered on some truly attractive...

Revealed: The Top 10 Custom Motorcycles of 2018

What a year it’s been for the custom scene. With so many great bikes crossing our radar, it’s almost impossible to pick out any personal favorites. So it’s just as well that our annual Bike Of The Year roundup is purely data driven. It’s based on page views, incoming links, and the number of social media shares. As always, it’s also weighted according to how long ago the bike was featured. A couple of interesting points to note: If we weren’t dealing with customs here, two factory bikes wou...

This tiny Honda SS50 is called ‘Wild Horse’ for a reason

George Woodman doesn’t build many bikes, but his creations always raise a big smile around the EXIF offices. This is ‘Wild Horse,’ a heavily modified Honda SS50 that’s as fresh as a mouthful of popping candy. It’s got plenty of zing too: the original 49 cc air-cooled single has been swapped out for a 190 cc engine, prepared by the pit bike tuner Stomp. Power is up to 22 frisky horses, which translates to a very lively ride on a machine with a wheelbase of just 46 inches (1.18m). ‘George ...

BAMBINO TO GO. Anvil Motociclette’s Tiny ‘Koz’ Italjet Minimoto

Written by Andrew Jones Like a trippy ’90s Mandelbrot set, custom bike inspiration has a rather magical ability to multiply almost infinitely the more you look at it. Just when you think something’s been done to death, a creative mind will lightbulb on an idea that opens up a whole new room for other builders to play in. When customisers thought that scramblers were getting old, they looked to ‘60s and ‘70s Enduro and Motocross bikes for greener pastures. So when Italian moto magicians Anvil ...

BAD DAD. FNG Works’ Insane ‘Papa Jahat’ Honda C70

Written by Marlon Slack Most engine swaps on motorcycles are sensible. People will stick a SR400 engine into a British plunger frame. They’ll lower a shovelhead engine into a hardtail. It usually makes sense. But rarely will a builder do something as bonkers as Malaysia’s FNG Works. They’ve crammed a 600cc Honda thumper engine into a diminutive Honda C70 and somehow done it cleanly enough that it looks perfectly stock. Irwann Cheng, head of FNG Works, has spent years honing his craft under...

TROUBLE & STRIFE. Pip Davidson’s ‘Eris Speedcub’ Honda C90 Shoestring Racer

Written by Andrew Jones Pip Davidson. As a man of few words, a self-confessed budget-build-a-holic, lover of small nitrous engines and the colour cream, you can imagine that his bike builds aren’t like most others. Not even a tiny bit. So when he told us his new bike was a faired Honda C90 ‘Speedcub’ racer whose name means ‘strife’, our eyebrows were raised. Needless to say, they were raised again once we saw the bike in question. Meet ‘Eris’, a wild custom Honda and the Greek Goddess of disc...

UNHEAVY METAL. Ad Hoc’s Svelte & Chromed Honda PC50

Written by Andrew Jones It’s a wondrous thing how less can sometimes be more – especially when it comes to mechanical engineering. Soichiro Honda understood this implicitly; his natural abilities saw him dubbed the ‘Japanese Henry Ford’. Nowhere is this more accurately demonstrated than with his pressed metal frame motorcycles. These amazingly simple yet useable designs would spearhead Honda’s American operations and open many minds to the joys of two-wheeled transportation. His ‘Little Honda...

NEW DIRTY BASTARD. K-Speed’s Hip Hop Honda Super Cub Scrambler

Written by Andrew Jones Then ‘Joey Boy,’ the Thai Rap superstar, told local custom shop K-Speed what he wanted. “Can you build me a Honda Super Cub scrambler?” he asked? A friend of the shop and a coach on Thailand’s own ‘The Voice’ reality TV series, Joey had seen a previous K-Speed Super Cub build and had set his mind on an off-road version. Being a fan of the outdoors and a big motocross nut, it made sense. Well, kind of. Needless to say, what the Thai Rap Superstar wants, the Thai Rap Sup...

This Board Tracker is Powered by A Lawnmower Engine

Harley-Davidson isn’t the only manufacturer with roots in Milwaukee. Briggs & Stratton—known for their lawnmower motors—were founded in the Midwestern city too, just five years after The Motor Company. That makes them a century old. And what better way to celebrate, than with a hand-made board tracker sporting a hot-rodded Briggs & Stratton power plant? This amazing machine is the work of Jeff Wolf, who’s been building custom bikes and hot rods as a hobby for the past forty years. Jeff ope...

Super Surfer: Cloning the Honda Cub

Not ready to let go of the weekend? We’ve got the solution, and it involves a surfboard, the beach, and a cute little scooter. This little slice of summer is called ‘El Gordo,’ [‘fat’ in Spanish] and it’s the first build from Dutch crew KRUK. Mark van Meerkerk and Ton Everaers hold down day jobs, but combine their talents after hours to make cool things. Mark’s one of Holland’s top surfers, and works as a mechanical engineering technician and theatrical automation specialist. He’s well verse...

HELLO MOTO. A Piaggio Ciao Racer from Italy’s OMT Garage

It’s not often we go to Italy. And it’s not often we feature mopeds, either. Hell, it’s not often that a bike goes largely unnoticed by our crack team of moto-loving freaks. But that’s exactly the perfect storm type scenario that unfolded on our recent trip to the continent. The post HELLO MOTO. A Piaggio Ciao Racer from Italy’s OMT Garage appeared first on

Southeast Asia – What I Expected vs. What I Experienced

I felt the grinding sound of the landing gear lowering below my feet. That hydraulic rumble that reminds me you’re most of the way through your descent and about to return to terra firma. The palms of my hands were starting to sweat and I felt a rock in my stomach.  Despite previous trips, my last foray into a wildly different culture had been a couple years previous and done with family. This time, I was alone and couldn’t help by second guess my decision. As the ground raced up to greet me,...
