Calibre library on NAS

Hello, I want to store my Calibre Library on my NAS (Synology). Just store and use it there, not use Calibre as a server. Calibre runs on my PC and makes contact with my NAS. I can copy it to my NAS or use Calibre to move the library. I tried both. Eather way the result is dat I can approach my Library in Calibre and open and read books, but I can't change anything or add books. I get a "can't open Error"; "Unable tot open file". :help:

Working From Home: How to Optimize Your Wi-Fi and Improve Your Connection

The coronavirus has impacted businesses large and small. While stay-at-home policies are being lifted in some U.S. states, many companies have decided to continue to operate remotely. When safer-at-home policies were first introduced due to COVID-19, many people quickly set up work-at-home office spaces. But now that it seems many of us will be working at home longer than we thought, we’re finding our workspaces less than ideal. If small businesses are going to stay virtual—at least for a while—...

Running Calibre-web on Qnap NAS?

I'm running the server on a QNAP NAS in a (premade) docker container from Linuxio. I can get the docker image loaded but when I go to the server url, I see a page that asks for the location of the config file and nothing I put in there is accepted. Any thoughts? Does anybody have a similar setup running? Cheers

Refreshing Content Server for newly added books

I am running Calibre/Server via Docker. All is good for the most part. But newly added books don't appear unless I restart Calibre server. Let me explain. I have a Calibre instance on my Win10 PC where I manage books... adding, deleting, editing. My PC's Calibre book library is synced to my NAS where the Calibre Docker server resides. When a new book is synced to the NAS, it does not appear in the server interface, unless I restart the server (even days after adding the book). It seems like...

Native install on NAS / Synology

Dear all I would like to suggest a native build of calibre for Synology. I'm using a docker system on my NAS to run calibre - and it works but has several short comings. I actually have no knowledge how difficult it would be to develop and then maintain another build. The Synology system is somehow close to Linux. ... Error Opening Database stored on a NAS - RESOLVED!

For those of you that run Calibre with your library stored on a Synology NAS, I thought I would post a problem with solution that I recently encountered. In short, in my configuration (Windows 10 PC running Calibre program with Calibre Library and database stored on a Synology NAS) only works properly with SMB 1.0 file sharing; it will not work properly with SMB 2.0 or 3.0. Before I continue: I know that Calibre is not designed to be run with it's database residing on a NAS. However, I have be...

Western Digital's SMR Disks Won't Work For ZFS, But They're Okay For Most NASes.

An anonymous reader shares a report: Western Digital has been receiving a storm of bad press -- and even lawsuits -- concerning their attempt to sneak SMR disk technology into their "Red" line of NAS disks. To get a better handle on the situation, ArsTechnica purchased a Western Digital 4TB Red EFAX model SMR drive and put it to the test ourselves. [...] Recently, the well-known tech enthusiast site Servethehome tested one of the SMR-based 4TB Red disks with ZFS and found it sorely lacking. The ...

Western Digital Gets Sued For Sneaking SMR Disks Into Its NAS Channel

An anonymous reader quotes a report from Ars Technica: All three of the surviving conventional hard drive vendors -- Toshiba, Western Digital, and Seagate -- have gotten caught sneaking disks featuring Shingled Magnetic Recording technology into unexpected places recently. But Western Digital has been the most brazen of the three, and it's been singled out for a class action lawsuit in response. WD may face Class-Action lawsuit over SMR HDDs controversy

The infamous law firm 'Hattis & Lukacs' is looking for plaintiffs affected by WD Red SMR HDDs. Earlier I covered that many NAS users found multiple issues with one of the two models of the WD Red series HDD. After a series of tests, comparisons and notes, it was determined this happened because of this change. The older WD Red model used CMR technology. Ubuntu Server 18.04 can't seem to change metadata.db location

Hello, I am using Calibre to warehouse my ebooks on Ubuntu Server 18.04. I am not using Calibre Content Server to read via the web as I am using Calibre-Web for that purpose. I've noticed Calibre-Web being quite slow so I dug around a bit and realized Calibre creates the metadata.db database in the same location as the library. However, my library is on a NAS and I don't want the metadata.db to co-locate as I'd prefer it be local to Calibre. I've tried all sorts of methods to set the environmen...
