Predators’ Win Over Sharks Full of Milestones

On March 16, the Nashville Predators defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-2 to conclude a vital California road trip. The game against the Sharks was the most important of the trip as they are a playoff team and serve as a measuring stick for the Predators. Well, Nashville passed the test after they twice lost a one-goal lead only to regain said lead. It was a statement game for them as they’ve struggled in recent weeks. However, the game was more than a key victory over a quality opponent late in the...

Revisiting David Poile’s Drafts – 1998

The Nashville Predators have been an NHL franchise since the 1998-99 season after the city was granted an expansion team in June 1997. In their 20 seasons of existence, there has been one constant: general manager David Poile, who’s served that role since the franchise’s inception. Therefore, he’s been the architect of every team that’s suited up, from the inaugural roster through the 2018-19 rendition. That means he’s been the decision-maker in a lot of drafts and has made a lot of picks, 178 t...

Penguins Make March a Month of Milestones

Evgeni Malkin has been the talk of the town in Pittsburgh since reaching the 1,000-point marker with two assists in a 5-3 win over the Washington Capitals on Mar. 12. Evgeni Malkin was honored before today's game for his impressive 1,000 point milestone. Geno, It has been our pleasure watching you play all these years. After tragedy, Evander Kane ready to get back on ice vs. Predators

SAN JOSE -- After an emotional couple of weeks, Evander Kane is excited to get back in the lineup as the Sharks prepare to host the Nashville Predators on Saturday night. The winger hasn't played since Feb. 26 when the Sharks fell 4-1 to the Bruins in Boston, as Kane was sidelined with what the team classified as a mid-body injury. Earlier this week, Kane issued a statement via social media revealing that during that stretch he and his wife lost their daughter during pregnancy.

What’s Wrong with Kyle Turris?

Since the Nashville Predators acquired Kyle Turris in a Nov. 2017 trade, the move has been scrutinized in the year-plus since because he has struggled to stay healthy and hasn’t lived up to expectations when on the ice. With only 20 goals and 64 points in 111 regular-season games and three points in 13 playoff games as a Predator, he has been a letdown. Related: Turris Trade a Year Later Now in his age-29 season and year one of a six-year, $36-million deal, he and the Predators need to figure ou...

Ducks say they have plenty to play for down the stretch

ANAHEIM — Technically, the Ducks remain alive in the Western Conference playoff race. Realistically, they’re out of it and have been since last month. So, what’s left to play for in their final 11 games, including Thursday’s date with the Coyotes in Glendale, Arizona? Pride, for one thing. The Ducks veterans aren’t used to missing the playoffs. “We’re competitive people, so we want to make sure we’re playing as well as we can no matter what time of year and no matter what kind of circumstances,”...

Morning Line- Peter Laviolette

"We were chasing a game again, we can't keep chasing a game. We made a mistake on the first goal in the offensive zone and it came back and bit us. The second one goes in and all of a sudden shortly into a game you're down 2-0 . You can't play that way. You can do that once in a while and come back, but the percentages aren’t with you." -Peter Laviolette, head coach of the Nashville Predators after a 3-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.  Paul Skrbina of The Tennessean has more.

Most Valuable Predator: Colton Sissons

I’ve written about it, others have written about it and it’s clear from watching their games: the Nashville Predators offense is struggling this season. The result is a team with Stanley Cup aspirations could find themselves ousted in the first round of the postseason thanks to their inability to generate depth offense. The Predators’ top line of Viktor Arvidsson, Filip Forsberg and Ryan Johansen is as talented as most teams’ first lines, but there’s a steep dropoff in production in lines two th...

NASHVILLE — Nino Niederreiter scored twice in the first period and the Carolina Hurricanes held off the Nashville Predators 5-3 on Saturday night to sweep the season series. Sebastian Aho had a goal and an assist and Justin Williams and Jordan Martinook also scored. The Hurricanes snapped a two-game skid to keep their spot in the first wild-card in the Eastern Conference. Teuvo Teravainen had two assists, and goalie Petr Mrazek improved to 8-0-0 against Nashville. Mikael Granlund, Brian Boyle an...

Flames’ Treliving Sticks to His Plan

The 2019 trade deadline came and went without fanfare for the Calgary Flames. The Winnipeg Jets added Kevin Hayes. The Nashville Predators added Wayne Simmonds and Mikael Granlund. The San Jose Sharks added Gustav Nyquist. The Vegas Golden Knights added Mark Stone. Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving didn’t load up at the 2019 trade deadline. Penguins’ Johnson Has Been Pleasant Surprise

On Feb. 23, the Pittsburgh Penguins faced the Philadelphia Flyers at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, as part of the 2019 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series. Toward the end of the first period, Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds (who has since been traded to the Nashville Predators) leveled Penguins defenseman Brian Dumoulin with a high hit and he immediately went down holding his head. In the ensuing scrum, Kris Letang (who had been having arguably the best season of his c...

2019 Norris Trophy Race

With the trade deadline in the rear-view mirror and just a month left in the 2018-19 NHL season, all eyes have turned towards two things: the playoff picture and the individual awards races. The races are heating up down the stretch for several awards, but the closest finish could be for the Norris Memorial Trophy, an award given “to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position.” Of all the possible finalists, only two have previo...

Predators’ Arvidsson Having Franchise-Best Season

The Nashville Predators have had a problem scoring goals in 2018-19. At the time of writing this, they are tied for 17th in goals-per-game with 2.94 thanks to shooting 8.9 percent as a team, 23rd in the league. They’ve scored three or fewer goals in 41 of their 69 games and have a 14-23-4 record in those games. Ryan Ellis, Filip Forsberg, Calle Järnkrok, Craig Smith, P.K. Subban and Kyle Turris are having down seasons relative to 2017-18 and it has hurt the team as a few players have carried the...

Predators reclaim top spot in Central, Wild pick up huge point

At some point you have to think all of the players the Minnesota Wild have lost over the past few weeks, whether by injury or trade, is going to catch up to them. Even though they fell to the Nashville Predators in a shootout on Tuesday night, 5-4, they still managed to pick up a huge point in the standings by taking the game to overtime and extending their current point streak to seven games. Predators’ Power Play: Good Enough for Cup Run?

The 2018-19 Nashville Predators are a good hockey team. That’s no surprise, they were supposed to be. They also got better at the 2019 Trade Deadline as general manager David Poile brought in Bryan Boyle, Mikael Granlund and Wayne Simmonds. But there’s one area that has been problematic for the team all season: the power play. That won’t come as a shock to Predators fans who’ve watched this team struggle on the man advantage all season. The Predators are a great five-on-five team, yet they have ...

Trotz’s Islanders Defy Puck Possession Metrics

The success of the 2018-19 New York Islanders has been one of the biggest surprises in the NHL this season. After losing John Tavares to free agency, many prognosticators expected the Islanders to fall from fringe playoff contender to bottom of the standings. Instead, they have earned 81 points in 64 games, embarrassed Tavares and the Toronto Maple Leafs in his return to Long Island and they are tied for the lead in the Metropolitan Division with the Washington Capitals (with one game in-hand), ...
