Three Things to Know: Trae Young has seen the future and it’s dropping 50 on Heat

Fast forward to Thursday night, the return of basketball after the All-Star break, when the Hawks and Heat met up again. Young looked rested after a few days off, he looked motivated, and he dropped a 50 spot on the Heat on 12-of-25 shooting, 8-of-15 from three, to spark an Atlanta win. This time it was Young who took to social media.

At Tock, this restaurant group owner and former trader is building a Spotify for reservations

Tock, a nine-year-old, Chicago-based culinary reservation service, has never had the kind of brand-recognition that other companies in the space have enjoyed, from publicly traded OpenTable to Resy, the New York-based company that was founded in 2014 and acquired last year for undisclosed terms by American Express. That’s because Tock long focused on a white-label service for its customers, many of them high-end restaurants like French Laundry that, with Tock’s encouragement, began years ago sel...

Lakers’ Frank Vogel says DeMarcus Cousins ‘not close’ to a return

EL SEGUNDO — The Lakers’ first practice after the All-Star break ended the way many often have lately. DeMarcus Cousins stood on the opposite end of the team’s practice facility from the media, shooting 3-pointers. Since August, when he tore the ACL in his left knee, this has been mostly a curiosity. On Thursday, it was a talking point. Cousins fanned some of this fire himself with his appearance on the “All The Smoke” podcast with former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, his first su...

How Tacko Fall, Tremont Waters fared for Red Claws vs. Skyhawks

The Maine Red Claws continued to be one of the best teams in the NBA by virtue of their 119-100 win over the College Park Skyhawks on Thursday night. The Red Claws (25-9) were led by Boston Celtics rookies Tacko Fall and Tremont Waters, who both had strong games to help lead the team to victory. Fall, fresh off making an appearance at the NBA's All-Star weekend, looked particularly good as he notched a massive double-double in the win.

NBA rumors: Could Warriors trade Andrew Wiggins for Giannis Antetokounmpo?

The Warriors' desire to bring the Milwaukee Bucks star to Northern California is well known, and fans have talked themselves into the idea of the Greek Freak taking the baton from Steph Curry. Antetokounmpo will be a free agent in the summer of 2021, and will be eligible to sign a supermax extension this summer. The Bucks currently are the favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference, and a trip to the NBA Finals likely would mean the reigning NBA MVP would make Milwaukee his long-term h...

Allen Iverson tears up remembering his friend Kobe and the one time they played as teammates

Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson has shown his softer side since retiring from the NBA in 2010. The Players' Tribune did a nice sitdown with Iverson over All-Star weekend and it's making the rounds again today thanks an ESPN bump.

Clippers prepare for stretch run, in flux but formidable

In the immediate aftermath of a stinging 141-133 overtime loss in Boston, even Amir Coffey, a young guard on a two-way contract, seemed to be channeling some of the angst associated with this season’s Clippers, telling reporters on the scene: “We have a lot to work through.” That might be true: The Clippers limped into the All-Star break, losing three of four on their road trip and without knowing when they’d get Paul George (that nagging hamstring) or Patrick Beverley (that nagging groin) back ...

DeMarcus Cousins says he wasn't supposed to play for Warriors in NBA Finals

DeMarcus Cousins tore his left quadriceps early in the first quarter of Game 2 of the Warriors' first-round playoff series last year against the Los Angeles Clippers. Somehow, someway, the big man returned six weeks later and appeared in all six games of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. "I was terrible in the Finals.

Former Sacramento Kings Center DeMarcus Cousins On The ‘All The Smoke Podcast’: ‘I Wanted To Finish My Career In Sacramento’

(CBS 13)- DeMarcus Cousins’ final few seasons with the Kings were marred by constant speculation over whether the big man was happy with the state of the organization. Eventually, the relationship ended with a trade to the New Orleans Pelicans. That trade happened during All-Star weekend while Cousins was in New Orleans for the All-Star Game, and he spoke to former teammate Matt Barnes and co-host Stephen Jackson on the All The Smoke podcast about the aftermath of the move. For Cousins, he was l...

Warriors' belief in Marquese Chriss has resuscitated an NBA career

You're a 2016 NBA lottery pick, selected eighth overall. As days and nights last summer came and went without a phone call or a text message or so much as a July 2nd Happy Birthday greeting, Marquese Chriss concedes that during his 90-day turn as a free agent there were moments when he wondered if that is how his dream would end.

Enes Kanter: The Athletes of the WNBA Are Fighting for Equality. We in the NBA Need to Fight Beside Them

A dream came true When I was drafted into the NBA a decade ago. I never thought of anything more than putting in my best work and helping my team win. For the talented athletes of the WNBA, it is a different story. After making it professionally, they continue to battle for equitable pay, balanced media portrayal and fair treatment. They have to fight two battles—one on the court, and the other off court. This is about more than pay; it’s about recognition for their hard work as athletes. O...

How a Lakers coaching staff of strangers blended to lead the West’s top team

CHICAGO — The Lakers might not be where they are today if not for a very crucial task that helps keep them humming. It’s an area that falls under the expertise of assistant coach Mike Penberthy, who once won a title with the Shaq-and-Kobe-era Lakers. When coaching staff meetings invariably bog down with the minutiae of game planning, he’s often the one who makes the decision to shake things up. “I’ll be like, ‘You know what, I think we need some donuts today,’” he said. “I’ll grab one of the you...

Beilein resigns as coach, says emotional goodbye to Cavs

John Beilein stood in front of the Cavaliers and emotionally explained why he's leaving. ''It took a real man to do that today,'' Cavs forward Kevin Love said. One of college basketball's most successful coaches over the past two decades, Beilein didn't make it through one NBA season.

USC freshman Isaiah Mobley finding his footing as Trojans enter stretch run

LOS ANGELES — Ask most young basketball players to name the guy they model their game after, and you usually don’t get much variety. Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kyrie Irving are some of the most recycled choices. But USC forward Isaiah Mobley has a different answer: Some combination of Nikola Jokic and Kyle Anderson. It might take you back by its uniqueness at first, but it reveals who Mobley thinks he can be at his best: A lanky point guard initiating the offense, in the model Ander...

NBA Mock Draft 4.0: Top of the 2020 NBA Draft still a mystery

One thing we know for sure about the 2020 NBA Draft: no team executives will be losing sleep on the eve of the lottery hoping to land the first or second pick like a year ago when the top prizes where generational power forward Zion Williamson and point guard extraordinaire Ja Morant. Georgia's Anthony Edwards gets credit for being available to play all season, but his poor shooting percentages from the field and the 3-point line for a bad college team hardly scream top overall pick. Injuri...

Steve Kerr says Stephen Curry 'looking great,' wants him to play with Andrew Wiggins this season

With the Golden State Warriors sporting the NBA's worst record and staring at a prime lottery pick, there's little motivation to rush Stephen Curry back to the court. Kerr spoke with reporters after Wednesday's practice that saw Curry participate with a red no-contact jersey similar to the ones NFL quarterbacks wear. Curry hasn't played since breaking his left hand on Oct. 30 against the Phoenix Suns.

How Kevin Durant reacted to Ja Morant jabbing Steph Curry on Twitter

Two weeks ago, Warriors superstar Steph Curry and Memphis Grizzlies rookie Ja Morant made headlines because of a little social media spat regarding Andre Iguodala. Hey Kevin Durant -- why do you think Morant chose to tweet a picture of you holding the NBA Finals MVP trophy? There's always been speculation about what my place was on the team, or what I meant to the team," the two-time NBA Finals MVP told Bleacher Report's Taylor Rooks. "I don't think that got anybody on the Warrior...
