Work Bag Reboot

Last week's trip was a short one for a product launch. Basically it was "Fly there, get picked up at the airport and shuttled to a somewhat remote resort hotel, get shuttled to the range the next day, back to the hotel, then back to the airport and fly home."While it would have been absolutely legal for me to bring a firearm, the allure of not having to check a bag was a strong one. Truthfully, I felt the absence of a pocket knife more than I did the lack of a gun; the threat envelope was virtu...

Angelina Jolie to Direct ‘Unreasonable Behaviour’, the Story of War Photographer Don McCullin

It’s been a few years since Angelina Jolie got behind the camera as a director. The last film she helmed was First They Killed My Father in 2017, but soon she’ll be working on another true story in Unreasonable Behaviour, the story of British war photographer Don McCullin. And this time she’ll be getting some help from another superstar actor, with Tom Hardy stepping up to produce. Based on Don McCullin’s autobiography published in 1992 (and updated in 2017), the film will tell the story of ...

Pack up the old kit bag...but with what?

Let me preface this post by saying I still want a Nikon Df. Unfortunately, these unique retro Nikons are still over a grand on the used market. Since I use Canons for work and just shoot my Nikons for fun, that's more than I can justify shelling out on a camera body.Blog friend Jim had stumbled into a screaming deal on one and, having been mostly out of the SLR game since the film days, he wrote to see if I had any suggestions for a budget-friendly lens kit. After a bit of research on the inter...

Press “F” to pay respects...

Although it was rumored early last month, it seems to have quietly become official: Nikon is listing the F6, its last pro 35mm film body, as “old product” on their website.Rumors have swirled for years about whether the F6 was actually still in production or not. The film market collapsed so rapidly at the dawn of the DSLR age that Canon and Nikon were selling off New-Old-Stock inventory for years. Still, every now and again a guy on a forum would report buying a new F6 and finding a letter in ...

Camera Problem

I’ve got a small problem with the Nikon P610. By this I mean I was walking through the woods with the camera over my back, and in some kind of freak accident, a vine got caught on a tripod mount and ripped a quarter-sized hole in the middle base of the housing next to the battery door. I’ve patched it with glue and a bit of plastic cut from an ice tea jug. The camera still works, but it may not be long for this world. Going to add tape across the battery area, and we’ll ...

Barring something freakish in November...which is not at all out of the question in 2020...Thursday was probably the last sunny, 80 degree day to take a leisurely outdoor lunch on the patio at Fat Dan's.I was enjoying a Fat Burger with cheese and sliced jalapenos, accompanied by fries and a frosty pint of Toppling Goliath's Pseudo Sue, when there came an angry rumbling noise burbling southward on College Avenue... Open Mike: My Top 10 Favorite Cameras of All Time*

["Open Mike" is the Editorial page of TOP, which is sometimes off-topic but not today.] - In no particular order, but roughly chronologically: Zeiss Ikon Contaflex B. This belonged to my father, who let me use it when I was a kid. It was an SLR with a fixed 50mm ƒ/2.8 Tessar lens, and I believe a leaf shutter. I loved it, especially the shutter sound. I had a job at a Kentucky Fried Chicken stand when I was 14, and left it on the electrical junction box outside when I was unlocking the store o...

“Stay tuned” says Panasonic director – The GH6 is coming

The hypothetical Panasonic GH6 has been long-rumoured with little but radio silence from Panasonic. And while the Panasonic GH5 was only released in early 2017, rumours of the GH6 have been around since early 2019. It’s started to feel a little like the Nikon D400. Recently, in an interview with CineD, Panasonic Imaging director Yasuke […] The post “Stay tuned” says Panasonic director – The GH6 is coming appeared first on DIY Photography.

Shoot the Moon

No deer out tonight, as a bush-hog had just shaved down a berm over looking the flood plains, so I decided to try to take a picture of the moon in daylight. The white dot near the center of the first picture, low on the horizon, is the moon taken at the same time as the picture at bottom. All three pictures were taken with a hand-held point and shoot Nikon P90. From: Terrierman's Daily Dose To order the book.. [Author: PBurns]

How to use just about any camera as a webcam for video calls
