White Terrier Moon

Due to a conflux of errors, cold, battery failure, lack of tripod, and fatigue I flubbed the “Blood Wolf Moon” picture of the other night, but I took this picture this evening of this White Terrier Moon. Camera is an off-the-rack point and shoot Nikon P610 ($320 a couple of years ago), which has since been replaced by the Nikon B700. From: Terrierman's Daily Dose To order the book.. [Author: PBurns]

This super slim adapter will let you mount Sony E lenses on Nikon Z cameras with full autofocus

It’s interesting how things evolve. Nikon has traditionally made lenses that you can adapt to pretty much any other system (to varying degrees of compatibility), due to the huge flange distance of the F mount. That means with other camera systems like Canon & Sony, video shooters could use those wonderful Nikon lenses of old. Nikon Shows Off New COOLPIX B600 Compact Digital Camera

Canon is King of DSLR and Mirrorless Sales in Japan for 2018

Canon reigns supreme in both DSLR and mirrorless camera sales in Japan for 2018. And the results are somewhat staggering to behold. Image via Avinash Singh from Pexels.com. In DSLRs, Canon enjoys a 57.4% market share in Japan according to PetaPixel. The King is then followed by Nikon and Ricoh which hold 39.3% and 3.1% of the DSLR market. For those of us that are not mathematically inclined, this means that a little more than every 2 out of 4 DSLR cameras sold in Japan come from Canon. As Peta...

How to Safely Buy Photography Gear Online

Buying online is always a risk. Anyone anywhere can list something for sale, and there’s often no recourse should a problem arise. Even big marketplaces like Amazon—with tens of thousands of sellers—aren’t immune to counterfeits and scams. Photographers spend billions every year so they’re an obvious target; let’s look at how to safely buy camera gear online—or at least, buy it as safely as possible. How Common Is Counterfeit Camera Gear? Counterfeit camera gear is, if not common, definitely ...

5 Years On…The Death of the DSLR Revisited

A little over 5 years ago, we posted an article questioning whether the death of the DSLR had been greatly exaggerated. It was one of a raft of articles by various writers on various websites. Some were very much of the opinion the DSLR was dead, others thought it was absurd that mirrorless would be the future. All the articles were well reasoned, based in fact and created heated discussion within the community.   In our article, we looked at how smartphones had killed the compact camera market...

The Best Film Camera of All Time is…

The best film camera of all time is the Olympus OM-1.   That’s all folks, end of the article. Ok, bias is a thing…my favourite is the Olympus OM-1 Photo by Martin Taylor Ok Just Kidding…Sort Of… Alright, alright, I do realise that just because a camera is my favourite camera, it isn’t necessarily the best.   This is probably the most subjective thing to try writing about, but I’m going to try to address it without starting World War 3 (or maybe I will…it is the internet!). Nikon Z6 in-depth analysis: ISO, battery life, focusing and more

Battery problem? Nooo! More than 5,500 pictures. I have read in several places that the battery only allows 300 pictures. This is a complete lie. With a single battery, I am able to shoot more than 5,500 photographs without recharging. All were shot in RAW. I also had activated the stabilizer in normal and sport. I went to the biggest tech show in the world after not going for the past 7 years — and I was surprised by how little had changed

I went to CES, the biggest tech show in the world, for the first time since 2012. To be honest, not much has changed since the last time I went seven years ago. LAS VEGAS — Thousands of people flock to Nevada in the first weeks of January for the biggest annual tech show in the world — and this year, I was one of them. I hadn't been back to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) — or Las Vegas, for that matter — since 2012, which was the last time I had been sent on assignment to cover the tech ...

This is how they clean camera sensors at the Leica Camera AG service centre

Cleaning our sensors at home is a fairly straightforward thing to do. I’ve been doing it since I was shooting with a pair of Nikon D100 bodies back in 2002 because sending your camera off to be cleaned was prohibitively expensive back then. These days, most camera stores will offer some kind of cleaning service. But […] The post This is how they clean camera sensors at the Leica Camera AG service centre appeared first on DIY Photography.

An even Rebel-er Rebel...

When Canon introduced an inexpensive version of their EOS (Electro-Optical System) autofocus, auto-wind, auto-everything SLR cameras in North America back in 1990, they branded it the "Rebel" line. These are the ones that are marketed to Joe and Jane Consumer as a step up from point & shoot cameras.Wonders are promised if you will just step up to the SLR, with pictures of mom snapping beautiful pics of dance recitals and dad catching dramatic shots of birthday candles being blown out.
