Kartje: In the NFL playoffs, there’s no place like home

Exactly six years ago, on a chilly night in Foxboro, Massachusetts, the Baltimore Ravens unseated the mighty New England Patriots in the AFC championship, stamping their ticket to the Super Bowl. An aggressive Ravens defense intercepted Tom Brady twice, and soon-to-be Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco threw three unanswered, second-half touchdowns to pull off an unexpected upset in the Patriots’ own stadium. That was the last time a road team won a conference championship game. In the 10 AFC or NFC titl...

2018 Vikings grades, linebackers: Anthony Barr's contract season leaves you wanting more

At the center of the Vikings' defensive issues to begin 2018 were a pair of linebackers either running toward or put into the wrong places at the wrong times. Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks, a proven duo, rebounded unevenly as head coach Mike Zimmer tinkered with a defense that had play-action problems but would once again force the NFL's stingiest third-down rate and fewest touchdown passes. And Barr might have played his last game in a Vikings uniform. That game, on Dec. 30 against Chicago, w...

Not long before getting job offer, Matt LaFleur got a call from Aaron Rodgers

The Packers' official position was that quarterback Aaron Rodgers would have no input in the search for a new coach. During Wednesday's introductory press conference, new Packers coach Matt LaFleur admitted he got a phone call from Rodgers before LaFleur received a job offer.

Mike McCarthy looks to be permanently on hold in Cleveland

There had been a presumption that, with former Packers coach Mike McCarthy available, with the Browns looking for a coach, and with plenty of former Packers front-office executives populating the front office in Cleveland, McCarthy would be a viable candidate to become the next coach there. It was believed at the time that G.M. John Dorsey knows who he wants to hire, that he was keeping his preferences to himself, and that his choice for the job wasn't McCarthy. Which could be regarded as a...
