Back with Pack, Madison says 'life was on the line'

Packers guard Cole Madison says he took time away from football last season to focus on his mental health: "I had to go help myself before my football career."

While paying respect to past, LaFleur focused on future

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Going into his first practice as Packers head coach, Matt LaFleur is trying to downplay the past. At least a little bit. “I wanted to make it about these guys,” LaFleur said following Tuesday’s minicamp practice. “When you come to the Green Bay Packers, obviously, you respect the tradition, the […]

Packers days of never going abroad could be drawing short

The Packers stand alone in many ways, but one of the things they've held onto longer than any team may not last much longer. According to Peter King of NBC's Football Morning in America, the Packers are likely (perhaps as soon as next season) to finally play a foreign game, as “the NFL is conscious of not giving a prized franchise special treatment. With Carolina and Houston making the trip to London this year, the Packers are the only team not to play a game on foreign soil.

NFL TV schedule practically sells itself

In a daylong process that included leaks both real and fabricated and at least four hours of primetime analysis on the cable sports networks, the National Football League on Wednesday released the full TV schedule for its 2019 season. Having boiled down the final roster from a database of 500,000 possible permutations, the NFL effectively has provided its network partners with the list of dates on which they can expect to generate the most revenue during the coming broadcast season. No NFL ri...

Packers Draft Preview Capsule

12 and 30. GREEN BAY (6-9-1) LAST SEASON: QB Aaron Rodgers directed stunning rally from 20-point deficit to beat rival Bears in opener after leaving game with left knee injury. That was highlight of season of disappointment and dysfunction for Packers that triggered firing of coach Mike McCarthy in December. Rodgers was banged-up all year, […]

Breaking down the Vikings' 2019 schedule: Toughest games, key matchups, best road trips

For whatever it's worth in April — before the draft, and well before the commencement of injuries that inevitably alter the course of a NFL season — the Vikings' 2019 schedule is the league's eighth-toughest, in terms of the winning percentages their opponents had a year ago. That's a function of the league's schedule rotation, which has the entire NFC North playing all four teams from the AFC West this season. The Vikings and Packers, as part of that rotation, each have road games against the C...

2019 NFL schedule: Five must-see prime-time games

The NFL announced its schedule for the upcoming season on Wednesday, and there is plenty of prime-time action to indulge in. Rather than opening action on Thursday like past championship defenders, the New England Patriots will kick off their regular season and raise their Super Bowl LIII banner in the league's first Sunday Night Football showdown on September 8 against AFC rivals the Pittsburgh Steelers. As for the opener, the league will kick off its 100th season by pitting the Packers ag...

Chargers 2019 schedule includes four games in prime time

After a surprising six-game winning streak, the Chargers added two prime-time games to their 2018 schedule. All three were played in December, including the come-from-behind Sunday night win in Pittsburgh and the walk-off 2-point conversion on a Thursday night in Kansas City. With the Chargers delivering two of the most memorable games in 2018, the NFL apparently wanted more of them under the lights. The Chargers received four prime-time games on Wednesday when the league announced the full 2019...

First round mock draft suggests Packers will take a ... quarterback?

Trickles of information over the past few weeks have suggested the Packers are interested in Missouri quarterback Drew Lock. It was reported earlier this week that they were hosting him on a top-30 visit, adding more fuel to the chatter. Even more intrigue followed Tuesday when NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah released his latest mock draft and had the Packers taking Lock with their second of two first-round picks, No. 30 overall. Wrote Jeremiah: "ThePackershave been doing a lot of homework on quarterb...

Debates all Wisconsinites have

Wisconsinites may be united about what football team to cheer for and whether our lakes are better than Minnesota’s, but we have our disagreements, too. Whether it’s at the bar or snacking on cheese, these nine classic Dairy State debates sneak their way into our conversations. 1. Is Brett Favre a traitor? Some Wisconsinites still love him, while others love to hate him. It might be old news by now, but we’re still split on whether he’s a traitor to our beloved Packers. 2. Should we vaca...

Sure, there'd be tension with Aaron Rodgers, but here's case for Packers drafting a QB

When it circulated around the NFL early this week that Missouri quarterback Drew Lock would be a late visit added to the docket of the Green Bay Packers, an NFC personnel man who worked on a staff with Packers coach Matt LaFleur was nonplussed. Missouri quarterback Drew Lock (3) is scheduled to visit the Packers this week. Could Drew Lock or Daniel Jones give Packers golden opportunity?

Packers wanted to bring Daniel Jones in, couldn't arrange

The Packers bringing Missouri quarterback Drew Lock in for a visit wasn't just a one-off chance to meet a particular guy. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers were trying to arrange a visit for Duke's Daniel Jones, but were unable to get him in. The Packers hadn't been linked to quarterbacks in this year's class prior to the Lock news, and attempts to check out multiple quarterbacks suggests a broader interest.

Report: Drew Lock visiting Packers

The Packers have Aaron Rodgers under contract through the 2023 season, but that may not take them out of the market for a quarterback in this year's draft. Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports that former Missouri quarterback Drew Lock is traveling to Green Bay on Monday and will meet with the team on Tuesday. The Packers have the 12th and 30th picks in the first round and 10 total picks in this year's draft.

Matt LaFleur: I don't really care what happened before I was in Green Bay

Matt LaFleur oversaw the first week of his first offseason program as head coach of the Packers last week and a lot of the attention in Green Bay was on the final days of his predecessor's tenure. An article by Tyler Dunne of Bleacher Report reported on a variety of things that went wrong in recent years, including issues between quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy that might give some people pause about stepping into McCarthy's shoes. LaFleur didn't hesitate to take the j...

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have signed former Baltimore and Green Bay running back Ty Montgomery, giving them some versatility and depth in the backfield behind Le’Veon Bell. Davante Adams becomes latest Packer to defend Aaron Rodgers after controversial story

Rodgers suddenly was in the NFL news cycle last week, when a long story from Bleacher Report's Ty Dunne about the relationship between Rodgers and former Packers coach Mike McCarthy painted Rodgers as petty, a less-than-ideal leader and a tough teammate to play with. Adams is still Rodgers' teammate, and said he disagreed with how Rodgers was portrayed in the story. Davante Adams on Aaron Rodgers: 'Great leader' Adams spoke with the media at the Packers facility on Wednesday,...

Aaron Rodgers: Report of his feud with McCarthy was a 'smear attack'

In a wide-ranging and deeply sourced piece for Bleacher Report, Tyler Dunne last week chronicled the dysfunction of the Packers during the Aaron Rodgers/Mike McCarthy Era as seen through the eyes of several former players and others associated with the team. Some sources were on the record. Some were off. But the overall picture it painted was as detailed as it was unflattering. On Monday, Rodgers spoke publicly for the first time about the report. Predictably, he was not happy. "The thing is ab...

Aaron Rodgers reveals tibial fracture in addition to MCL sprain

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers took part in an extended interview with ESPN Radio Milwaukee's “Wilde and Tausch” on Monday. In part one of the interview, Rodgers ripped last week's Bleacher Report story on the discord within the Packers, a story that cited numerous sources and laid the blame for the team's failures during Mike McCarthy's tenure on both Rodgers and McCarthy. Rodgers called the story a “smear attack,” though the quarterback isn't exactly known...

Aaron Rodgers decries “smear attack”

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has broken his silence. Rodgers specifically addressed two specific aspects of Dunne's report, including one that as of Friday afternoon was destined to be handled by Rodgers. “The two main things I think I really want to talk about and just clear up, which are really central themes to the article, the first is the [Packers CEO] Mark Murphy conversation because part of the article seems to want to say the Packers are worried about me as the leader of the fo...

Things people from Wisconsin worry

These are the burdens on Wisconsinites’ minds, and our out-of-state friends just don’t understand. Here are 10 more things only people from Wisconsin worry about. 1. What's next for Aaron Rodgers, Mike McCarthy, Matt LaFleur after explosive report

I think my biggest takeaway from Tyler Dunne's excellent unpacking of the Packers/Rodgers/McCarthy/Thompson story is this: Mike McCarthy is going to have work hard, and repair his tarnished image significantly in the next nine months, to have a real shot at a head-coaching job in 2020. With the broadsides he's taken since getting fired by the Packers late last season, McCarthy has a chance to be Brian Billick—a Super Bowl-winning coach damaged so much late in his tenure that he never g...

Eddie Lacy works out for Ravens

Eddie Lacy is trying to get back into the NFL. Lacy, the running back who was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2013, had a workout with the Ravens today, a league source tells PFT. The 28-year-old Lacy once appeared to be one of the best young running backs in the NFL, a second-round pick of the Packers in 2013 who topped 1,100 rushing yards in each of his first two NFL seasons.

Latest revelations make Aaron Rodgers' contract look like a mistake

Last offseason, the Packers gave quarterback Aaron Rodgers a huge new contract, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history. The latest revelations about Rodgers' relationship with the higher-ups in Green Bay raise a simple question: Why? Why did the Packers give Rodgers an enormous new contract, when they still had him under contract for two more very affordable seasons?
