6 Wine Bars To Visit Around Salt Lake City

Before I worked in the ski industry, I got my feet wet in the wine world while working at small wine shops in Boulder, Colorado. I immersed myself in learning about different grape varietals, aging methods, growing techniques and of course, the requisite tasting of fun and funky bottles. After moving to Utah and doing some research to get my wine fix in my new home state, I found there were hidden wine connoisseurs at wine bars around the state—happy to share their favorite bottles they’d worked...

American Samoa Residents In California Homesick, Stranded By COVID-19

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (AP) — Makerita Iosefo Vaʻa hasn’t been home for nearly eight months — the longest she’s ever been away from American Samoa. She longs for the breezes that cool island humidity and the ocean sounds and smells that permeate her home in the village of Tula. She also misses the food that’s impossible to recreate in Tracy, California, where the coronavirus pandemic has left her and her husband stranded. “Every time I talk about it, I just cry,” she said. Flying while fat

Ines Vuckovic/Dose This story first appeared on Dose on Medium and is republished here with permission. Flying on a plane is one of the most dehumanizing experiences a fat person can have. If it’s not the glares and stares from people praying you don’t sit next to them, it’s the eye rolls when you tell them, “I’ve got the middle seat” or the loud sighs when you put the armrest up just to get a little relief. It’s the anxious feeling you get when you need to ask for a seat belt extender. And i...

Hawaiian noticed that planes bound for Pago Pago were burning more fuel ― and thus likely carrying more weight ― th...

San Diego Theater Review: New Musical ‘Rain’ by Michael John LaChiusa

Sadie Thompson, that naughty lady of Pago-Pago, has had the struggle over her soul dramatized innumerable times on stage and screen since Somerset Maugham created her in his 1921 short story “Rain.” It’s most surprising to see her treading the boards again in 2016, especially in such a serious musical drama as this “Rain,” a...
