‘Fantasy Island’ Review: Stay Far, Far Away From Blumhouse’s Horror Getaway

Fantasy Island, the late ’70s/early ’80s TV series that made the catchphrase “The plane! The plane!” wildly popular, heads to the big screen thanks to the fright masters at Blumhouse. As is their want, Blumhouse has warped the show into a horror movie – a move that’s not entirely unprecedented. The original show had plenty of supernatural elements – there was even an episode featuring the Devil. And the old adage of “be careful what you wish for” has been exploited time and time again for scary...

Tom Steyer spent about $1,900 for every vote he got in New Hampshire

There are a lot of ways to spend $19 million. Buying TV ads in a presidential race you have close to zero chance of winning probably shouldn't be one of them.Billionaire philanthropist Tom Steyer has dumped tons of his own money into the 2020 Democratic presidential race, coming in second to only former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in terms of spending on TV and Facebook ads. Radar, a location data startup, says its “big bet” is on putting privacy first

Pick any app on your phone, and there’s a greater than average chance that it’s tracking your location right now. Sometimes they don’t even tell you. Your location can be continually collected and uploaded, then monetized by advertisers and other data tracking firms. These companies also sell the data to the government — no warrants needed. And even if you’re app-less, your phone company knows where you are at any given time, and for the longest time sold that data to anyone who wanted it. Locat...

Hello

Hello, I am Patrick. I registered today through the calibre website. My ebook history started from Palm's pdb era as well as avantgo, but stopped after the falling of Palm. I have not touched hardware and software related to ereader/ebook since then, until several days ago I suddenly found a scenario that I can use ereader, i.e. to read news (what an excuse for a new toy...). I have not owned a device yet. I plan to make sure what I want can be accomplished through calibre or other ways bef...

Patrick Mahomes learned “next play” mantra from his father

Long before Patrick Mahomes was a professional quarterback, he saw what it was like to be a pro. The son of major league pitcher Pat Mahomes, the future Chiefs quarterback was around clubhouses growing up, seeing firsthand how the game and the business worked. The father made it a point to take his son to work often, from the highs of 6-year-old Patrick working in the batting cage with Alex Rodriguez when he was with the Yankees, to the harder life of all-night bus rides when his father was hang...

Underdog Democrats Michael Bennet and Deval Patrick Say They’ve Got a Chance in Flinty New Hampshire

The two hardest-working candidates in New Hampshire this primary season haven’t yet made a dent in the polls—but both insist it’s too early to count them out. Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet is drawing a dismal 0%, according to an Emerson College survey, and former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick is a statistically insignificant hiccup higher, cornering just 1% of likely voters. Biden tells New Hampshire Democrats: Buttigieg is ‘not a Barack Obama’

By JULIE PACE and HUNTER WOODALL MANCHESTER, N.H. — Scrambling to salvage his presidential campaign, Joe Biden escalated his criticism of Pete Buttigieg on Saturday, mocking Buttigieg’s experience as a small city mayor and cutting down the comparisons Buttigieg has drawn to the last Democratic president, declaring: “This guy’s not a Barack Obama.” Biden’s biting attacks on Buttigieg’s relatively thin resume mark a new, more aggressive attempt to slow the momentum of the youngest candidate in the...

Sanders, Buttigieg seen as top targets in Democrats New Hampshire debate

By STEVE PEOPLES MANCHESTER, N.H. — The Democratic Party’s seven strongest presidential contenders are preparing for what could be the fiercest debate of the 2020 primary season as the race barrels ahead toward a series of contests that will help determine the course of the nomination fight. Comment on braised ginger meatballs in coconut broth by Erin Fortney

I made this last night for when Patrick got home late from a business trip and we both loved it – such a nice and easy reprieve from a dreary, cold winter week. My only modification for next time will be to double the broth so that it’s truly a soup. Do you think I could put all the aromatics in cheesecloth next time to avoid the annoyance of fishing them all out of the broth (and inevitably missing some)?

Gabbard Campaign to Protest CNN Townhall over New Hampshire Snub

Representative Tulsi Gabbard (D., Hawaii) is scheduling a protest outside the New Hampshire venue where CNN is hosting town halls ahead of the state’s primary next week, after Gabbard was excluded from the two-night lineup — despite out-polling townhall guests Andrew Yang, Tom Steyer, and Deval Patrick in New Hampshire."This attempt to silence Tulsi is bigger than one person — it’s our right as voters to hear from ALL the candidates, and to have our voices represented. No institution should be a...
