WABAC Wednesday

As Mr. Peabody might say, let's step into the WABAC (or Wayback) machine... Here we go, all the way back to the year 2016. I was in New York City seeing the inside of the Guggenheim Museum for the first time. I went more to see the building than the art. Good thing, because most of the art was gone. They were preparing a new installation on the building's iconic spiral ramp. Black and white treatment inside the Guggenheim. My friend and I did get to see the art in the museum's "new" (1992) win...

Alcohol delivery and CBD-infused beverage startups are flourishing during coronavirus containment, while the broader direct-to-consumer industry struggles to keep a foothold

So-called "vice" startups, such as those that specialize in alcohol or CBD, are seeing record sales and booming demand during the widespread work-from-home directives and social distancing measures to protect people from the novel coronavirus. Alix Peabody, founder and CEO of canned alcohol startup Bev, said that her business model was built to flourish in times of economic uncertainty and larger downturns because people use alcohol to "celebrate" but also when they are "bored and worried." Cool Stuff: Andy Fairhurst’s ‘Back to the Future’ Trilogy Print Set Goes Back in Time

There are countless art prints for Back to the Future out there in the world, many of them for the original movie that introduced us to Marty McFly, Doc Brown and the time traveling DeLorean. But as a fan of the  whole trilogy from director Robert Zemeckis, what I really like is when an artist creates a set of posters that represents the entire franchise with unifying imagery. Artist Andy Fairhurst has teamed up with Bottleneck Gallery for a new Back to the Future trilogy print set that satisfi...

David Chang’s new Netflix show

Anthony Bourdain’s television shows No Reservations and Parts Unknown were, on paper, supposed to be about food. The chef-turned-globe-trotter traveled the world trying cuisines unfamiliar to many Americans, offering his witty and insightful commentary along the way. Sounds like a pretty straightforward premise, but the Emmy- and Peabody-award-winning shows ended up remaking the travel docu-series genre. It’s difficult to overstate Bourdain’s influence: He merged food and politics in the pub...
