Enlarge / We spend time getting to know some Aes Sedai in this episode, including Liandrin (Kate Fleetwood).

Saliba shines William Saliba, a 27 million pound signing in 2019 from French side Saint-Etienne, is yet to play a minute of senior football for Arsenal. Most Americans fear they've lost control of their personal information, as Facebook and Google continue to dominate the online ad market (GOOG, GOOGL, FB, AAPL)

Technology platforms like Google and Facebook are raking in record revenues from helping advertisers use personal information to target ads, as the industry continues to grow. At the same time, an overwhelming majority of Americans are concerned about companies harvesting their personal information and say the risks outweigh the benefits, according to a new survey from Pew Research Center. The survey found that people feel paralyzed by a lack of understanding about how companies use their data...

A San Francisco startup is paying its employees $200 a month to reduce their screen time

Front, a startup that makes a shared inbox app, has challenged its employees to reduce their screen time to less than 14 hours a week. If the employee can make it a whole month, they earn $200. Mathilde Collin, Front's CEO, abandoned work-related apps on her phone years ago, and said it made her happier and healthier. The goal of the challenge, Collin said, is for employees to cut out distracting notifications and focus on what really matters. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories...

10 Easy Pieces: Traditional Bridge Faucets

Since its inception at the turn of the century, the traditional bridge faucet is unchanged. With a muscular brass body that stands a few inches above the counter, the two-hole-mount bridge faucet is the first design to blend hot and cold water into a single spout. At present, the bridge faucet is the cherry on top when it comes to any Shaker and period kitchen. Here are our absolute favorites (note that for our purposes, all are of the deck-mount variety, but many are also available as a wall-mo...

Visionary architect, curator, and big wave surfer Francois Perrin

Architect, curator, surfer, knight of the French government, partner, father, son, brother, and dear friend to many, Francois Perrin died on Monday in Ventura County, close to a favorite wave. He was from Paris but had been in Los Angeles for decades so was simultaneously both French and Californian. I really have no words sufficient for this so will let Alissa Walker’s tribute on Curbed LA stand. It deserves a full read but I’ve included some excerpts and quotes below. ‘He was a center of gr...

The first great photography craze

Before Instagram, selfie sticks, disposable cameras, Polaroids, and box brownies, there were carte de visites – small photographic albumen prints, mounted on card, which were wildly popular during the Victorian era. Also known as CdV, carte de visites followed the early pioneering photographic techniques such as daguerreotype and ambrotype, which were expensive and difficult to reproduce. Cartes de visites were born from calling cards, which bore the owner’s name and usually an emblem, a...

7 Videos of French Vocal Groups

I love French vocalese groups that take on jazz of the 1950s. There's something about hearing the lyrics (in many cases written by Jon Hendricks) with a Parisian feel. Here are seven video clips of formidable French vocal groups in the style of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross: Here are the Blue Stars in 1956 singing George Shearing's Lullaby of Birdland, with Christiane Legrand in front at the opening singing the high notes... Here's Les Doubles Six in 1960 singing Quincy Jones's Meet B.B.... H...
