In Pet Valu Canada Inc. v. Rodger, 2018 ONSC 3353, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice ordered the sole shareholder of the representative plaintiff in the Pet Valu class action to pay the franchisor's costs of the class action.

FranCast: Good news for franchisors: Ontario Court of Appeal dismisses Pet Valu class action

The recent Ontario Court of Appeal decision in 1250264 Ontario Inc. v Pet Valu Canada Inc. 1 is good news for both Pet Valu Canada Inc. and Ontario franchisors. The court dismissed the class action commenced by Pet Valu franchisees, in its entirety, reversing a lower court ruling that had favoured the franchisees.
