Architecture seen here and there in the Right Bank. A stroll into the Galerie Vivienne is always nice. The gorgeous interior. Too bad that floor got damaged and was so poorly repaired. A wine shop. I liked the corks in the glasses. It’s a good place for a wine tasting. A typical Parisian café. Pretty fancy.

How to Pretty Up Your Photos With Google's 'Portrait Lighting' on Pixel

Who needs the newest Pixel, anyway? Google is now rolling out its “Portrait Lighting” feature—previously announced during the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 launches—to older devices. I just fired it up on my Google Pixel 3 XL, and found it a great tool for artificially tweaking the light source of your portrait images.Read more...

Palais Royal

I go here a lot but, what the heck, I was in the area. These striped columns are art but, as you can see, are enjoyed by everyone. Very regal. A French King was raised here once. I like the two fountains there. The mulberry trees there aren’t allowed to do as they wish and grow in any direction. The center pond. When it gets really cold, the water is shut off.

Google Photos revives its prints subscription service, expands same-day print options

Google Photos is reviving its photo printing subscription service and introducing same-day prints. The company earlier this year had briefly tested a new program that used A.I. to suggest the month’s 10 best photos, which were then shipped to your home automatically. But Google ended the test on June 30. During the trial, Google had offered users a $7.99 per month subscription that would automatically select 10 photos from one of three themes, including people and pets, landscapes, or “a litt...

Out and About

Out and about the other day in an area outside of our neighborhood. I am seeing many windows like this around Paris as restaurants and cafes had to close during isolation times. Some made it back. I’m not sure about this one-it could have just been closed. The French government has started another shutdown in larger cities requiring all businesses to be closed by 9 PM. There was a demonstration yesterday here in Paris about wearing masks. I read today in the newspaper that there is worldwid...

The sun came out after many days of rain and gray skies and it was so nice to go up to Montmartre, a part of Paris on a hill and really like a village in many ways. It’s full of places like this often seen on Instagram. A cabaret still in operation. I hope it survives the virus. The architecture is nice up there too. I wouldn’t mind having windows like those. Signs of Autumn. These leaves should be red in a month or so. This is often seen on Instagram too. It is ...

A Mix

Once again, a mix of photos from around my neighborhood. If I cross a bridge I get to the upscale area of Paris called Passy. Two of these figures were above a door. There’s lots of beautiful architecture there, like this door outlined with mosaic tile work. A pretty little flower shop. Doesn’t this bread look yummy? My local Monoprix often does very lovely displays, like these grapes and the mushrooms in the background-where that lady was also taking photos. ...

I’ve always liked the art by Turner. His work is often very dramatic, full of emotion and especially wonderful light. I read that the fashion in painting when he lived was having black on the canvas and painting over that but he used white and I think it accounts for the fabulous look in his work. He was a strange man, as many artists are, very reclusive, very messy. The movie, Mr. Turner, gives you an idea of how he lived and painted. It was a pleasure to go to the André Jacquemart Museum to lo...

Richard Bernard Goodie March 27, 1923 – October 8, 2020

Born in Bangor, Maine, March 27, 1923, son of Frank J. Goodie, Sr. and Mary (Munroe) Goodie, to those who knew “Dick” would agree: he lived a very full life. As a freelance writer, many of his varied adventures were published in the Maine Sunday Telegram. He was author of three books: The Maine Quality of Running, A treatise on the early history of Maine distance running; A Bracelet for Lily, a World War II romance novel and an Amazon Kindle selection, and Raindrops on a Nail Keg, a collection o...

I made my way to the André Jacquemart Museum to have a look at the Turner exhibit there. The museum itself is also a work of art. This sweet sculpture is in the first room. Part of the really good movie, Gigi, was filmed in this museum. The lovely staircase. This is in the garden room. The bedroom of the wife of Jacquemart. She was an artist and had painted him. They spent their lives together collecting art that is seen in this museum, once their home. The most ...

Unbelievable photos caught a NASA rocket mission flying in front of the moon. A photographer explains the crazy steps he took to get the rare images and video

A 133-foot-tall Antares rocket launches NASA's Cygnus NG-14 cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station. A carefully orchestrated photo caught the flight transiting in front of a nearly full moon on October 2, 2020. Steven Rice Northrop Grumman launched a cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station at 9:16 p.m. ET on October 2. An enterprising photographer from Philadelphia managed to record the 14-story rocket flying in front of a nearly full moon. Professi...
