Sunrise on Lake Mendota — 7:04 — what am I laughing at?

Ducks! I am easily amused. Sunrise. Ducks ducking. What more can you want? It goes to show you don't ever know. [Author: [email protected] (Ann Althouse)]

Sunrise — 7:11, 7:17.

I took this picture at 7:11:    And Meade took this picture — I'm in it — at 7:17:   Talk about anything you want in the comments. And please think of supporting this blog by doing your shopping through the Althouse portal to Amazon, which is always right there in the sidebar. Thanks! [Author: [email protected] (Ann Althouse)]

Yesterday at Devil's Lake.

All 3 photos taken at about 3 in the afternoon in Devil's Lake State Park. I took the first 2, and the third one, showing me, was taken by Meade. Talk about anything you want in the comments. [Author: [email protected] (Ann Althouse)]

Sunrise run.

Photos by Meade. That's me in the photos, taken at 6:32 and 7:00, Central Standard Time. ADDED: Beauty is wherever you can find it. Yesterday, Meade found it in the Target parking lot and made this video: [Author: [email protected] (Ann Althouse)]

Sunrise — 7:15, 7:11.

I arrived on the scene at 7:11 and waited for what I called "the dot":  There it is, our dot, our orb — the star of the show, the whole show, life on Earth.  That's not me admiring the sun. I was taking that photograph. But 4 minutes earlier, pre-dot, it was me in the photograph, greeting the photographer, Meade: [Author: [email protected] (Ann Althouse)]

At the Sunrise Café...

... you can talk about whatever you want. And here are some phases of today's interesting sunrise.  The pale edge of the sun first appeared a little way up from the shoreline, as if there was a phantom horizon: It heated up nicely:  And, from a distance, Meade took a picture of me taking a picture. At the Sandhill Café...

... you can talk about whatever you like (but it will take a moment or more before you post will go up).  That's a photo by Meade, taken within a mile of home. The path in the foreground is the Lakeshore Path. The lake is Lake Mendota. The cranes are very accustomed to people nearby. They stalk about in the university parking lot. They're a real fixture of the landscape. [Author: [email protected] (Ann Althouse)]

Redbud.

Meade texted that to me from the backyard yesterday. I responded... charming i like the way the tree looks like a bent arm wearing a very old sweater [Author: [email protected] (Ann Althouse)]

Scarlet elf cups.

"Sarcoscypha coccinea, commonly known as the scarlet elf cup, scarlet elf cap, or the scarlet cup, is a species of fungus in the family Sarcoscyphaceae of the order Pezizales."    We found them today in Blue Mound State Park, where we walked my favorite trail, the Over Lode. "The asymmetry of the table not centered under the window is troubling, no?"

Said R C Belaire, looking at this photograph in yesterday's Lunchtime Café:   Meade had, in fact, been troubled by the asymmetry, and, even before seeing Belaire's comment, had embarked on the project of repositioning the table. Here's Meade's photograph, to dispel all your troubles that are about window-table asymmetry at Meadhouse: [Author: [email protected] (Ann Althouse)]

"What's the avocado tree's name? (I have forgotten). It's looking pretty large."

Said MadisonMan, in the comments to the post with video of Meade grinding hard red winter wheat. Meade answered "Arthur" with a link to "Recurring features in Mad (magazine)" (Wikipedia), and then, later, took this picture of the tree and me.   I'm there, I suppose, for scale. The hat is not an affectation, but a needed shield for my eyes as I work in front of the big window, but it's funny to see it in the picture, because I just finished writing a post on the for the artist Barry Le Va, and...

I finally made it out to see the sunrise once again.

Had not made it out since February 2. Just too cold! And I only need it to be feels-like 9° to be willing to do it. I've done these sunrise runs since September 2019, and — not counting when we were out of town — I'd only ever missed an occasional day, maybe 2 days once or twice. I think I've missed more days this February than in all the other time combined. Ah, well! I was happy to get out.  [Author: [email protected] (Ann Althouse)]
