Daddy’s Hangout 2021 Week 3 NFL Predictions

Welcome to Week 3 of the 2021 NFL season in what has been an exciting couple of weeks. My record from a week ago was 8-4, which pushed my overall mark to 13-8. My winning percentage heading into Week 3 is 61.9% which means I’m below my targeted mark. The Los Angeles Rams continue to impress as they outlasted the Colts on the road. Buffalo rebounded nicely in Miami as they blanked the Dolphins. The Las Vegas Raiders are looking like real contenders early on after beating the Steelers on the road....

The 20 Best Dystopian Movies Of All Time

The differences between a dystopian story and an apocalyptic one are slight. It's common for a dystopia to set in after an apocalypse, and a dystopian world often hides its true nature, only revealing itself after subtle revelations pile up. H. G. Wells was one of the first writers to popularize dystopian fiction, with "The Sleeper Awakes" using what today's sci-fi fans may recognize as a Douglas Adams gag: A man falls into a coma and wakes up centuries later, his accrued financial interests mak...

Katee Sackhoff Returns To Horror In Night Of The Animated Dead [Interview]

This has turned out to be a banner year for fans of the late director George A. Romero. First, there was the release of his long-lost 1975 film "The Amusement Park" and now his 1968 horror masterwork "Night of the Living Dead" has been faithfully remade in animation form by Warner Bros. and titled "Night of the Animated Dead." Voicing the small but crucial role of Judy (originally portrayed by Judith Ridley) is fan favorite actress Katee Sackhoff, who is best known for big sci-fi franchises: "Ba...

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Alex Wood just wanted to find a nice rhythm again in his return from a bout with coronavirus, to continue working toward feeling at full strength come playoff time. Curt Casali hit a two-run single in the fourth that held up, Wood made an impressive three-inning comeback from COVID-19, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Atlanta Braves 2-0 on Saturday night. Wood struck out four and didn’t walk a batter or allow a hit over three scoreless innings, throwing 37 pitches in hi...

Ranking John Carpenter's 10 Best Film Scores

A John Carpenter movie is as recognizable as an AC/DC track. There's a griminess to the cinematography, a cheap but immersive realness to the sets. Faces repeat: Kurt Russell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasance, and the rubbery visage of William Shatner. And then there's the music. Like Angus Young on guitar, we always know what a John Carpenter movie sounds like. There's a synthesizer at the heart of the score, sometimes flanked by Fender guitars and heavy percussion. Most of his compositions h...

Daddy’s Hangout 2021 Week 2 NFL Predictions

Welcome to 2021 Week 2 of the NFL season as things kicked off with a bang. Last week was bad, but it could have been much worse with my predictions. My record was 5-4, which falls way short on my quest to have at least a 70% winning percentage. The big shockers on Sunday had to be the Saints dominate the Packers for starters. The other one saw the Arizona Cardinals decimate the Tennessee Titans. On Monday, we saw one of, if not the best game when the Raiders beat the Ravens in OT. We will kick...

Dodgers’ projected postseason roster has already taken shape

LOS ANGELES ― Now that the Dodgers have clinched a postseason berth, it’s customary to view their remaining regular-season games as an opportunity to refine roster roles with an eye toward October. Toss that custom out the window. The Dodgers’ starting lineup, rotation, closer and set-up roles are all but cinched. Their injured list has been whittled to one player projected to return between now and the end of the season, outfielder AJ Pollock. The question of who will make the Dodgers’ 26-man p...

Alexander: For Dodgers, wild card game might not be that scary

It has been the narrative all season around the Dodgers, and particularly in September: Catching the San Francisco Giants and winning a ninth consecutive division title was paramount, above all to avoid the one-and-done, roll-the-dice, edge-of-the-cliff wild card game. But what if it isn’t that risky? It’s worth noting that when the Giants became the first team to clinch a postseason berth Monday night, their celebration was about what you would expect from a team that hadn’t been there since 20...

Derek Carr rallies Raiders past Ravens in wild OT win

By JOSH DUBOW AP Pro Football Writer LAS VEGAS — Derek Carr threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Zay Jones after the Raiders squandered their first possession of overtime, beating the Baltimore Ravens, 33-27, on Monday night in the team’s first game with fans in Las Vegas. Carr’s second touchdown pass of the game came after Carl Nassib’s strip sack of Lamar Jackson at the Ravens’ 27-yard line. Nassib made big news this offseason when he became the first active NFL player to come out as gay. The Rai...
