Big Brands Are Now Operating In the Social Services Sector

When our local, state and federal governments fail, Americans are at risk. Historically, charitable organizations have done the bulk of the work needed to address mounting humanitarian crises. Today, corporations are pitching in, as well. Exhibit One: Microsoft is pledging $500 million to address homelessness and develop affordable housing across the Puget Sound region. Time Management for the Solo PR Pro: Who Has Time for That?

We all have the same number of hours in the day as Beyoncé, so they say. Except where Beyoncé has a huge team behind her, as solo consultants, we are the ones wearing many of the hats in our businesses. So, what’s a solo to do? Maximizing our time is directly connected to growing our income. Many of us delegate to virtual assistants, which helps us accomplish more than when we try to do it all. Whether you're forging ahead on your own, have a little help, or have assembled a team, we can all...

PR for Early Stage Founders Who Have No Time for PR

By  Chris Lucas, Vice President of BLASTmedia and Rachael Feuerborn, Program Manager Techstars Chicago I see my fair share of brilliant founders. Many of whom have well-thought-out business models, growth strategies, product roadmaps, etc. However, most neglect PR… because honestly who gives a hoot when you are spending your last $276.78 trying to get your big vision off the ground while investors (and your parents) keep telling you to quit? I get it. That’s why I wrote this. What is PR? ...

What is Account-Based Marketing? Should You Use It?

What is all the talk about account-based marketing (ABM)? Is it another flash-in-the-pan buzzword or is it here to stay? And should your team invest the time to learn and implement it? For starters, let’s explain what it is. At a high level, account-based marketing (ABM) is a concentrated and personalized approach to B2B marketing in which marketing and sales work together to focus on a clearly defined set of best-fit target accounts with the ultimate goal of deepening engagement and ...

How to Survive a Conference Call

In many businesses today, it’s common to have conference calls to share information when coming together to meet physically is not a viable option. Here’s some advice for a successful conference call. Know ahead of time if you’ll be participating with audio only, or both audio and video. Test out your equipment ahead of time so you’re sure you know how to use it. If you’re the only one at your location on the conference call, use a headset with a good microphone, rather than relying on a speak...

On January 17th, the #PRStudChat Community Discusses How to Get Strategic With Owned Media

Owned media is less about controlling your content and more about creating what your customers need and prefer from you. It’s the “O” in the PESO model and it’s an important part of a brand’s communications plan. For years, PR professionals were mostly focused on earned media for the credible third-party endorsement. Today, our world of communications includes so much more. For example, owned media is an opportunity to customize content for niche audiences, to engage and build relationships thro...

What a Bento Box Taught Me NOT to Do in a Speech

Have you ever eaten at a Japanese restaurant? Japanese cuisine is among my favorites, and I love getting a bento box. With a bento box, you’ll get a small amount of several types of food, each neatly separated from the other in their own little compartments. One mistake that a novice speaker often makes is thinking of their speech as five disparate parts, like a bento box: introduction, three main points, and conclusion. But if you deliver your speech to your audience in bento box style, it wil...

Instagram now lets you post the same image to multiple accounts

Today I noticed a new feature on Instagram. If you are logged in to more than one account, Instagram now lets you post the same image or video to multiple accounts at the same time. With this new feature there are toggle switches for each account that you are logged into. By turning the switch on or off, you can decide which accounts the image or video will be posted to. I tried to post to two of my accounts and it worked like a charm. Here is the image posted to @kullin  And here it is on my ...
