How to make a simple $10 DIY disco prism for Profoto A1

Controlling and modifying light is a lot of what photography with studio lights and battery powered strobes are about. The AR Headset that puts sound first

Jonggun Kim realizes something pretty important with AR and VR adoption. We’re less likely to adopt it if it’s alien to our current lifestyle. No one currently carries (or needs to carry) a VR or AR headset with them so the only way to make them more widespread is to actively integrate them into one’s way of living. No one carries headsets around with them, but there’s a large portion of the population that carries headphones with them. Realizing that, the Prism is an AR headset that transforms i...

TFBTV’s Corey Wardrop certifiably geeks out over emergent technology with Cheston at Phone Skope. The world’s first phone-based AR headset!

Remember when the Oculus Rift was announced?? We went crazy at the prospect, however the biggest breakthrough for us, the consumer, came when Google announced the Cardboard, a makeshift device that used your phone (the very gadget in your pocket right now!) as a medium to view VR content. The cardboard spawned millions of copies, in paper, plastic, neoprene, etc… bringing VR to the consumer. The Mira Prism is the Cardboard of Augmented Reality. Bringing AR to consumers, not through the phone’s ...

Mira’s Prism is a $99 headset vying to become the Google Daydream of augmented reality

The Mira Prism is a strange product, intended to fill a gap that may or may not actually exist: the mid-tier AR market. The brand new startup is positioning the headset as the Gear VR or Google Daydream of augmented reality.  It’s a fair comparison, as far as cost and utility are concerned — the $99 headset doesn’t feature any on-board electronics. It’s more or an…

America's spooks want Congress to extend massive spying powers but still won't answer Congress's basic questions

Two of the NSA's mass surveillance programs revealed by Edward Snowden are Prism (which give the NSA "bulk data" access to the servers of Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and others) and Upstream (through which the NSA taps the internet's fiber optic backbones). Both are possible because of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which expires this year. (more…)

Use inexpensive prisms to add some colour and interest to your photography

Prisms have started to become quite a popular photography accessory in the last couple of years. Their very nature of bending and splitting light makes them ideal for getting creative with your photography. Typically, though, most photographers who’ve adopted a prism as part of their kit, use the same type. Long, triangular prisms, more commonly seen […] The post Use inexpensive prisms to add some colour and interest to your photography appeared first on DIY Photography.

Trump surveillance fears could lift privacy tech in Europe

The full ramifications of Donald Trump being the next president of the United States of America will not be known for months — perhaps years.
