Jonny Greenwood – “Licorice Pizza”

Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film Licorice Pizza hits select theaters today, with Alana Haim in a starring role. The movie’s soundtrack is mostly filled with music contemporaneous to its 1973 setting, but frequent PTA collaborator Jonny Greenwood did contribute at least a little bit of score to it. The Licorice Pizza Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is out today and it features a Greenwood track called, you guessed it, “Licorice Pizza.”

Licorice Pizza Early Buzz: A Magical '70s Romp With Engaging And Genuine Leads

If you're a film nerd like me, you've probably been waiting with bated breath for Paul Thomas Anderson's latest, "Licorice Pizza," since it was announced. There's nobody who knows '70s California stories quite like Anderson, and the prospect is enticing — but there is, of course, the other potential prospect: that Anderson finally delivers us a dud in his chosen sub-genre, the one he has come to be the king of. That being said, all signs point to that not happening, which is a serious relief.Des...

Boogie Nights Ending Explained: Hanging In And Hanging Out

With the release of Paul Thomas Anderson's new film "Licorice Pizza" fast approaching, a reexamination of his similarly '70s-set breakout "Boogie Nights" feels appropriate. Though packed with unyielding moments of exhilaration and intrigue throughout its 155 minute runtime, the film's ending drives home sorrowful sentiments on the collapse of the "Golden Age" of filmmaking — both pornographic and commercial — as well as containing the jaw-dropping reveal of Dirk Diggler's (Mark Wahlberg) impress...

Licorice Pizza Early Buzz Hypes A 'Perfect' Paul Thomas Anderson Movie

Director Paul Thomas Anderson ("Phantom Thread," "There Will Be Blood") is returning this month with his brand new coming-of-age dramedy "Licorice Pizza," which had its very first screening for Hollywood guild members this weekend. Though reviews won't be out until closer to the movie's November 26 release date, early buzz from industry members -- including J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens") and BenDavid Grabinski ("Are You Afraid of the Dark") -- is very positive. The trailer for "Licor...

John C. Reilly Says Alana Haim Reminds Him Of Joaquin Phoenix In Licorice Pizza

John C. Reilly has the "Licorice Pizza" hook-up and he is dishing out (sorry) all of the details. While the rest of us are waiting somewhat patiently to immerse ourselves in the world of Paul Thomas Anderson's upcoming film, which promises to be full of Valley vibes, Reilly (who has worked with PTA on many movies and has a cameo in "Licorice Pizza") has already seen a rough cut and is ready to speak his mind. The comedy star sat down with one of the stars of "Licorice Pizza," Alana Haim of the ba...

I'm a teacher. Parents should stay out of the classroom and let us decide what to teach our students.

Opponents of an academic doctrine known as "critical race theory" attend a packed Loudoun County, Virginia school board meeting. Evelyn Hockstein/Reuters The concept of teaching critical race theory has driven parents mad. Many of them have taken to school board meetings to express their anger. Parents should not get to decide what belongs and what doesn't in a public school curriculum. Matt Walton is an educator in Virginia. This is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed are those ...

In this episode I talk with writer, north Portland resident and Families for Safe Streets volunteer, Michelle DuBarry. Michelle and her family have endured the ultimate sacrifice in the War Against Cars. Every The Office Halloween Episode Ranked Worst To Best

When you want to get into the spooky season mood but don't have time for a scary movie, why not throw on a Halloween episode of "The Office" instead? After all, sitcoms like "The Office" are particularly good at holiday-themed episodes, and Halloween offers the added pleasure of getting to see the gang wearing costumes. It's fun to see actors, who pretend to be other people for living, play dress up as their characters. Figuring out who or what a fictional character would want to be for Hallowee...

The AIA Patents have Arrived

by Dennis Crouch The America Invents Act of 2011 included a major reshuffling of what counts as “prior art” against a given patent. 35 U.S.C. § 102 was substantially rewritten with a new focus on an application’s effective filing date, and zero focus on whether a patent applicant was the “first to invent.”  The new law applies only to post-AIA patents.  The Act defines these as any patent that “contains or contained at any time” a patent claim “that has an effective filing date” on or after Marc...

Pakistan has banned TikTok again in the country after reviewing a complaint that said the popular video app hosted immoral and objectionable content. A high court in the city of Peshawar on Thursday ordered the nation’s telecom authority — Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) — to ban TikTok. In a statement Thursday evening, Pakistan Telecom Authority said it was complying with the order and had “issued directions to the service providers to immediately block access to the TikTok app.” TikTok had ...

Patent Term Adjustment: What Happens When Examiner Withdraws Case from Appeal?

Chudik v. Hirshfeld (Fed. Cir. 2021) Chudik filed his patent application back in 2006. After receiving a final rejection back in 2010, Chudik filed a request for continued examination (RCE).  At that point the examiner withdrew the prior rejection, but then rejected the claims on an alternative ground.  Chukik appealed to the PTAB, but the Board did not get a chance to hear the case. Rather, the examiner again withdrew their rejection and re-opened prosecution with a new alternative ground for r...

Pakistan Forced Down Apps Made By a Persecuted Religious Minority

An anonymous reader quotes a report from BuzzFeed News: Over the last two years, the government of Pakistan has forced Google and Apple to take down apps in the country created by developers based in other nations who are part of a repressed religious minority. The move is part of a crackdown led by the country's telecommunications regulator targeting the Ahmadiyya Muslim community. Adherents, called Ahmadis, number about 4 million in Pakistan. Children are the next frontier for COVID vaccine clinical trials

Twelve-year-olds are tween-agers, staring down puberty and middle school, surprisingly mature one minute and tortured by angst the next. Some also are scientific pioneers, volunteering for clinical trials to test COVID vaccines in children. Slowly and gingerly, researchers are testing COVID-19 vaccines in younger and younger kids — even as millions of doses are pushed into the arms of their parents — with an eye toward FDA approval in the next year or two. Even though the United States has made a lot of progress when it comes to giving members of the LGBTQ community the respect and equality they deserve, there are still plenty of places with small town mindsets who need a little push in the right direction.
