Red Sonja #8 - mis-attributed Nestor Redondo art

Red Sonja v1 #8, 1978 - No Nestor Redondo art, despite what some comic book price guides say. The cover and interiors are superbly drawn by Frank Thorne, who made Red Sonja his signature character in the bronze age. Redondo's work does appear in 2 other issues of Red Sonja. - - - - - - - - - - Home / Redondo / Red Sonja >Redondo [Author: Ted Ignacio]

Red Sonja #14 - Frank Brunner cover

Frank Brunner Red Sonja v1 #14, 1979 - While traversing an underground cavern, Red Sonja is confronted by hellish creatures rising up from the water. Frank Brunner purposely tilts the horizon to add tension and uses the boat's figurehead and upraised sword to increase depth. And yet overall his inks seem roughly applied, especially on the title heroine. The fine lines that permeate his best [Author: Ted F]

Red Sonja v3 #3 - Nestor Redondo art

Red Sonja v3 #3, 1983 - As invaders lay siege on the walled city of Alwazar, Red Sonja allies herself with its defenders. For a second time, Nestor Redondo provide the inks for Mary Wilshire's pencils/layouts, with splendid results. Most impressive is the two-page panoramic spread of the city (pages 2-3). Redondo's detailed landscape adds grandeur and scale, setting the story's tone from the [Author: Ted Ignacio]

Red Sonja v3 #1 - non-attributed Walt Simonson cover, mis-attributed Simonson art

Walt Simonson Red Sonja v3 #1, 1983 - A close-in portrait of Red Sonja, this Walt Simonson cover is eye-catching but lacks adequate definition. The perpendicular placement of the swords offers a nice contrast to her flowing tresses. Her hands are clearly defined, but her face displays only the most basic details. While consistent with his style, Simonson delivers a lackluster effort. Other [Author: Ted Ignacio]

Red Sonja #13 - Frank Brunner cover

Frank Brunner Red Sonja v1 #13, 1979 - Red Sonja leaps toward the viewer with weapons drawn, while a woolly mammoth bursts through the background. Frank Brunner cleverly uses the massive tusks to emphasize the title heroine. Their symmetrical paths lead the eye toward her while creating a subtle circular frame. Unfortunately, the artist's characteristic brushwork is mostly absent, except for [Author: Ted F]

Red Sonja v3 #2 - Nestor Redondo art

Red Sonja v3 #2, 1983 - Delirium overcomes Red Sonja, a result of inadvertently drinking from a tainted spring. Glimpses from her childhood are revealed, providing clues to her origins. Although already laid out and sequenced, Nestor Redondo does a superb job on inking Mary Wilshire's pencils. Some pages are better than others, but the majority of panels contain a phenomenal level of detail. [Author: Ted Ignacio]

Red Sonja #12 - Frank Brunner cover

Frank Brunner Red Sonja v1 #12, 1978 - Frank Brunner's exceptional cover depicts Red Sonja in the aftermath of a battle, poised to take on the next challenger. Despite the busy masthead, the composition stands on its own due to the clear contrast between foreground and background. [Author: Ted F]

Red Sonja

Worst movie from 1985 that I’ve watched? Red Sonja is definitely right up there. This is a terrible movie that has not aged well — although to be honest, I don’t think I really liked it that much even back then. The biggest thing for me was that I always found it so weird that Schwarzenegger is in it, but doesn’t play Conan, yet it’s by the creator of Conan (and around the time of the Conan movies). But yeah, the action is horrible — oh god that swordplay — and it’s hard to find any fun in it. ...

Dw. Dunphy On…Comic Retribution — A Man Called Super Cool

It’s no secret — at least not anymore — that the comic book industry was not a glamorous lifestyle in its earliest years. Writers and artists were piecemeal employees paid to get the job done, not to be “creators.” This was a double-edged sword. For those who loved the comics medium, having that job was the dream of a lifetime, but it also meant that you as a creative individual had to dial back how much effort you gave, or else you’d come up with something enduring and far-reaching and have no ...

We NEED To Talk About Female Representation In Comics

When most little girls wanted to be Disney princesses, I wanted to be a different kind of princess. I wanted to be Wonder Woman. As a child, I marveled at her strength and fighting skills. She was the only woman in the Justice League. She could beat the crap out of Batman and gave Superman a run for his money. In short, she was a badass. But even back then I had to wonder, why the hell is Wonder Woman running around in just her underwear? It wasn't just Wonder Woman, either. From old school Vampi...
