Happy Valentines Day from Austin, heading home to Seattle. Meeting a friend visiting Seattle from Atlanta who has traveled the road I have recently traveled, and more. Looking forward to it, enough so to catch a 6 AM flight home and get to up at 3:30 to run up Congress Ave and around the Capitol. Running every morning has certainly made it a habit, so, believe it or not, it’s enjoyable to get up and get out, no matter the time. Though a 5 AM flight could make for an all nighter. Austin was good...

Christopherson's Launch

Robin Hamilton writes: Seeing a video today of a drug runner's confiscated private jet being launched from a dirt track in a forest made me recall my dodgiest takeoff last year. We were aerotow launching (uphill) from the dirt track running down to Kevin Christopherson's ranch, set halfway up the mountain above Casper, WY. The track also had 2-3ft high grass both sides with sage bush, rocks, farm equipment, deep ruts and probably families of deer and Elk scattered at or below the vegetat...

Sena 30K Intercom: Long Term Review

Introduction This long-overdue long-term review of the Sena 30K is being finished off as we begin a new year and a new decade and, coincidentally just as Sena announces the new 50 Series products featuring Bluetooth 5.0 and Mesh 2.0. Once the new Sena 50 Series product hit the streets, the 30K system is going to be the second rung on the Sena model ladder; but I doubt very much if it is going to fade away into obscurity. Nor should it – there is no denying its valued standing among our div...

Whicker: For Long Beach’s Myles Johnson, Rutgers’ basketball revival is a bonus

Rutgers University was not named after what happens when you get more than one Rutger. No, Colonel Henry Rutgers fought in the Revolutionary War and helped to save Queen’s College, in central New Jersey, from bankruptcy. Fortunately, a winning men’s basketball team was not a prerequisite for the gift. The Scarlet Knights were undefeated in 1976 until they ran into Indiana in the Final Four. The scrapbook dries up there. They have not had a winning season since 2004, have not been to an NCAA tour...

Q&A Interview With Detroit Emcee Valid

What was the earliest hip hop memory you can recall? My earliest memories would have to be probably my older brother who was a teen in the early 90’s having MC Hammer CDs & in the same time frame, my uncle’s saying something about a dude named MC Breed. I was too young to know what I was hearing. I also remember my cousins who were a few years older than me had to hide the Snoop Dogg Doggystyle cassette tape from my uncle. But the my most memorable moment involving Hip-Hop as a child was when I...

Personal tents for airplane passengers to avoid coronavirus

A few years back, my brother Rick Pescovitz came up with Under The Weather Pods, single-person pop-up shelters. You may have caught Rick on Shark Tank (video below). Rick was sick of getting soaked at his kids' soccer games and was inspired by a portable toilet he saw by the field. Under The Weather Pods are designed for watching sports, fishing, and other outdoor events where it's raining, windy, or cold, but you are either obligated to watch or having so much fun you don't want to leave.
