Jason Rohrer: Design ‘Unique Situation Generators,’ Not ‘Consumable Games’

“The press is dead.” At least when it comes to selling small independent games, according to Jason Rohrer (“The Castle Doctrine,” “One Hour One Life”). In an era that prioritizes influencers and content creators, Rohrer believes the press no longer factor into how games are promoted and sold. To support his position, presented in a […]

Are there constitutional (and ethical) issues raised by allowing the family of murder victims to hire lawyers to assist prosecutors as "associate attorneys" in capital prosecution?

The question in the title of this post is prompted by this very interesting local article from Kansas headlined "Despite doubts, judge allows private prosecutors in case of two slain deputies."  Here is the story, with one particular line emphasized: Over the objections of defense lawyers, and despite his own misgivings, a Wyandotte County judge said Wednesday he must allow private attorneys to assist in the prosecution of a man charged with killing two sheriff’s deputies. Antoine Fielder, 30, ...

Xzavier Ford’s 5-TD and 298-yard rushing effort lifts Glendora football over Burbank

GLENDORA >> Burbank coach Adam Colman figured the Bulldogs would have a hard time stopping a Tartans rushing attack led by a stout offensive line Friday night in their CIF-SS Division 5 first-round game at Citrus College. The Tartans (10-1) knew their big men up front gave them an advantage against a smaller Burbank (7-4) team, and all they had to worry about was taking care of what they could control. Led by junior Xzavier Ford’s five-touchdown and 298-yard rushing performance, Glendora took ca...

Giving Homeless People a Hand Up with Technology

The seed for HandUp, a crowdfunding site that solicits donations to help the homeless, was planted in early 2012 when Rose Broome passed a shivering woman huddling in the doorway of a real estate office in San Francisco. "On a cold night, I was walking down the street and saw a woman sleeping on the sidewalk," recalls Broome. "She didn't have a jacket, she didn't have a sweater -- just a thin blanket protecting her from the cold ground." That night, Broome says, "I made a commitment to myself t...
