Shape Up Collection by Roll & Hill

The Shape Up Collection of lighting by Roll & Hill was designed by Seattle-born, Brooklyn-based Ladies & Gentlemen Studio. The largest of the pieces is Shape Up 5-Piece Chandelier, which perhaps does the best job of highlighting the geometric playfulness of the collection. A modular system of cords and hubs, Shape Up 5-Piece Chandelier can be composed “in response to a space’s architecture and function.” The Cone and Hemisphere are available in three finishes: blackened steel, brushed brass, an...

Traditional industrial-scale rope-making is all kinds of neat

When it comes to making rope, there's no school like the old school. I love that, despite the advances made in the areas of fabrication and industrial automation, there are still products made using methods that haven't changed in a century. Some things, as this video from How it's Made illustrates, are better off without updates.

August 2018 Sex Media Recommendations

I’ve been excited to post this ever since I posted the first one. The blog format works a little better than social media since posts stay on the front page where you can see them longer. Plus, I often come across great content but am not able to immediately share it, so my readers and followers never get that recommendation. I find that knowing I want to recommend media makes me think more critically about what I am watching or reading and how it might apply to my followers, too. Finally, there...

Rope

There so much great about this movie, from the fact that it takes place entirely inside that one apartment, to the way it’s made to look as if it’s just one continuous shot (there are just a few cheats, so they were still very long takes). And it’s enjoyable to see the interactions between all of the characters, as you find how they all relate to the victim.

Armie Hammer’s Twitter “likes” include rope bondage

Apparently Armie Hammer doesn’t realize everyone can see his Twitter “likes.” googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display("div-gpt-ad-queerty_article_inline_unit_1"); }); While we don’t recommend taking a look at the office, you can scroll through screenshots of Hammer’s rather scandalous Twitter “likes” here, if you so choose. There’s quite clearly a theme. Related: Watch: Armie Hammer seduces Timothee Chalamet in “Call Me By Your Name” ...

#SunnySunday Rope and 17 Minutes

M wasn’t feeling well yesterday, so he took a long bath. While he was in the tub, I set my timer, put Halestorm on shuffle, and got on the elliptical. When my fifteen minutes were up, my feet were sore, but not like they usually are, so I decided to go to the end of the song. Ended up putting me at 17 minutes. Probably a little over, because the song was three minutes and 37 seconds long, and it came on at about 14 minutes. So tomorrow the timer gets set to 17 minutes. Maybe I’ll make this goal...

Watch Rope Get Made From a Tree Using a Thousand-Year Technique

Making rope is hard. Making rope the way the Vikings did it over a thousand years ago is even harder. First, you have to find the right tree. Then, you have to strip the bark of the tree when the sap is rising. And then, you soak the bark you just harvested in the sea for three to four months before you can even think about turning it into rope.Read more...

Commandments Alaskans live by

Photo: Joseph 1. Thou shalt fish. Especially when free or discounted tickets for a halibut charter are on the line. Always say yes to those. And definitely say yes if your friend is the boat owner. Never mind that you get sea sick, the opportunity to return home with a three hundred pounder and photographic proof of the conquest is well worth the landlubbers agony. 2. Thou shalt celebrate the ice worms. Possibly one of the quirkiest worms ever — ice worms are real and they spend their live...

Sanne Visser unveils super-strong rope bags made from human hair

https://vimeo.com/171334044 While it may sound disturbing at first, hair actually has a number of properties which make it perfect for use in yarn: it has a high tensile strength, is thermally insulating, flexible, lightweight, and oil-absorbent. A single human hair can hold up to 100 grams of weight, meaning that an entire head of hair could potentially withstand a whopping 12 tons. This varies, of course, on the health of the person they come from, and there also seems to be ethnic variation ...

Crazy Falling Man on a Loose Rope Stunt Shows How Physics Works

Here’s the idea: A man is going to be attached to a rope and then fall. The rope is totally loose and not attached to anything but there will be a weight rigged to the opposite end of the rope (the other end holds the man, remember). What happens? Does the man fall straight down? Nope! The rope swings around and tightens itself around the pole saving the man from plummeting to the ground. Duh.Read more...
