How Many Acres Do You Have?

Wild Mountain Thyme isn’t likely to win any Academy Awards, but it’s a fun date movie about an Irish woman named Rosemary who longs to win the heart of her hapless neighbor, Anthony. It’s a fun and scenic movie to watch. I wasn’t expecting to think much about any of the themes of the movie, but one theme did make me think. Anthony’s cousin Adam visits Ireland from America. “How many acres do you have?” he asks Rosemary. “I don’t know,” Rosemary replies. “How do you not know how many…...

Currently Obsessed with Cure Natural Aqua Gel – Japan’s #1 Exfoliator!

CURE’s Natural Aqua Gel Cure is Japan’s #1 exfoliator with 1 bottle sold every 4.5 seconds! Think that’s insane? Check out the over 5,000 reviews on Amazon! I’m always skeptical of fast-selling, cult-following products like this so I did not rush to write a review. When I saw the product claims of “catching dead skin on the surface and visibly removing it”, I have to admit I scoffed. Especially since the product boasted its unique, activated hydrogen water formula.  Instant results? ...

Recipes: 3 tasty ways to enjoy polenta, the ultimate comfort food

Enriched with grated cheese and butter, polenta is one of the ultimate Italian-style comfort foods. Throw in something cream-centric, such as mascarpone (Italian-style cream cheese) or crème fraiche (French-style cultured cream), and we’re talking paradise in a spoon. Polenta is similar to the cornmeal mush served in the American South, but don’t pigeonhole it as gruel. Italian cuisine uses it in oh-so-alluring ways, topping it with delectable sauces or using it as a counterpoint to rich meat. I...

State parole board panel recommends parole for onetime Manson follower

A state parole board panel Friday recommended parole for Bruce Davis, a onetime Manson Family follower who was convicted in two killings in 1969. Davis, now 78, has been found suitable for parole six previous times, with three different governors reversing the recommendation for parole. Most recently, Gov. Gavin Newsom blocked Davis’ release in November 2019. Former governors Jerry Brown and Arnold Schwarzenegger had also reversed the parole board’s recommendation. Davis was convicted of first-d...

Comment on cozy cabbage and farro soup by Deb+Evans

I made this last night. Followed the directions with only the addition of a few flakes of red pepper. Didn’t have fresh Rosemary so added a teaspoon of dried. It was delicious. Like one other person noted, I prefer this to the Hazan smothered cabbage recipe.

Good idea or no?

Good idea or no? Submitted by Abe on December 28, 2020 - 8:38am. In the middle of an Olive and Rosemary Sourdough. The recipe calls for black Kalamata olives. In my local store the choice I had was black pitted or green pitted olives by Crespo. The black olives were preserved in 'Salt, Stabiliser: Ferrous Gluconate; preservative: Potassium Sorbate'.And the green olives were preserved in 'Water, salt, Acidity regulators: Lactic acid, Citric acid'.While I was looking for black olives...

Strong survivor: Freddie Freeman’s four-month journey from COVID-19 victim to Most Valuable Player

On the night of July 3, he was the Most Vulnerable Player. He was one of the young and the strong who, we’re told, couldn’t be stopped by COVID-19. But  Freddie Freeman, two months short of his 31st birthday, was broiling with a 104.3 degree fever and frozen by unprecedented fear. That, he said, was the night when he reached up to his Lord and said, “Please don’t take me.” On Nov. 12, Freeman became the National League’s Most Valuable Player. He also could have won Comeback Player of the Year. H...

Comment on small-batch eggnog by Rosemary

Oh my goodness. I was just thinking about how I needed something like this in my life. I have a beloved recipe that whips up an entire punch bowl of nog, but I really really wanted just a little bit of the good stuff to sip on my own by the light of the Christmas tree. Thank you!!

Anything for Jackson review – grieving grandparents do a deal with the devil

In a riotously gory inversion of the Christmas story, an older couple plan to channel the ghost of their dead grandson into an unborn childThere’s something deliciously subversive about the backstory to this offbeat horror film, which was made in Canada. Director Justin G Dyck and screenwriter Keith Cooper have collaborated on a long list of treacly, holiday-themed, made-for-TV movies with titles such as A Very Country Christmas, Christmas With a View and A Christmas Village. Governor nixes parole for Manson follower Leslie Van Houten

LOS ANGELES — California Gov. Gavin Newson has reversed parole for Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten, marking the fourth time a governor has blocked her release. A California panel recommended parole in July for Van Houten, who has spent nearly five decades in prison. Newsom reversed her release once previously and his predecessor, Jerry Brown, blocked it twice. Van Houten’s attorney, Rich Pfeiffer, said they will appeal Newsom’s decision. “This reversal will demonstrate to the courts th...

Newsom Again Nixes Parole For Charles Manson Follower Leslie Van Houten

LOS ANGELES (AP/CBS13) — Gov. Gavin Newson has reversed parole for Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten, marking the fourth time a governor has blocked her release. Van Houten is serving a life sentence for helping Manson and others kill Los Angeles grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, in August 1969. Watch How to Be at Home, a Beautiful Short Animation on the Realities of Social Isolation in 2020 I think, as social primates, we want to feel a strong sense of belonging either in a relationship or to a community—or both. But also intrinsic to our humanity is a feeling that we are truly alone. —Filmmaker Andrea Dorfman, 2010 When they first became friends, poet Tanya Davis and filmmaker Andrea Dorfman talked a lot about the pleasures and hardships of being alone. Davis had just gone through a break up, and Dorfman was just embarking on a r...

‘Run’ Filmmakers on Their Cinematic Influences, the Film’s ‘Mission: Impossible’ Moment, and More

Mission: Impossible is Searching director Aneesh Chaganty‘s favorite film franchise, so it’s not a surprise that he uses imagery from that movie to describe the centerpiece action sequence in his newest thriller, Run. In a recent interview, Chaganty told me that one of his movie’s biggest camera moves “was intentionally supposed to evoke the pullout of Tom Cruise on the Burj Khalifa.” But Mission: Impossible wasn’t on the primary list of cinematic inspirations for this nail-biter of a story abo...

Comment on potato and leek gratin by J.

In reply to Kel. I think rosemary would be wonderful here! In my own recipe for gratin potatoes, I use leeks also, and I shred in some carrot for color, and I also use a tablespoon full of dijon mustard. I think you can do just about anything with a potato gratin, as long as you lead with one flavor profile. Rosemary and potatoes together are spectacular!

Death of Me review – Thai-holiday thriller can't supply the scares

A couple wake up in their Airbnb with worrying thoughts about what happened the night before in a frustrating taleHere is a promising idea for a scary movie that proves to be unscary and uninteresting in the most baffling, frustrating way. It starts out with a weird echo of the Hangover movies, then morphs into a variation on classic horrors such as The Wicker Man and even Rosemary’s Baby – but with none of the dark impish wit that you’d hope for with borrowings like those.Maggie Q plays vacatio...

‘Wild Mountain Thyme’ Trailer: Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan are Star-Crossed Lovers

In Wild Mountain Thyme, John Patrick Shanley, writer of Moonstruck and more, writes and directs Emily Blunt, Jamie Dornan, Jon Hamm, Dearbhla Molloy, and Christopher Walken in a romantic drama set in Ireland. Does that mean Christopher Walken uses an Irish accent in this movie? You bet your boots it does! The film, described as “an epic love story with soaring lyricism,” is adapted from Shanley’s play Outside Mullingar. Watch the trailer below. Wild Mountain Thyme Trailer I’ll confess t...
