Isn’t That Awful: The Second Scrimmage

Happy spring 2018! Don’t get excited! Just because you like it doesn’t mean it’s the best. But again, just because it’s the best doesn’t mean you’ll like it. Of course, I know that Mr. Robot did that for a full episode in season 2 with th...

7 Ways to Move Forward After a Painful Breakup with a Friend

“It must’ve been love, but it’s over now! It must’ve been good, but I lost it somehow.” This 1990’s breakup song by Roxette was no doubt inspired by the end of a romantic relationship, but research shows these same themes — of pain and confusion — often mark breakups with friends as well. Researchers at Manchester University, for example, found that women are often more traumatized by dumping their friends than ending things with a lover. Women, they discovered, tend to feel a sense of shame ove...

Just like the A*Teens, A*Base are bringing the songs of Sweden's pop past to a new generation. Here's why it may not work Sweden is the global epicenter for great pop music - this is a country that puts Robyn and superstar producer Max Martin on its postage - but even the nation that brought us Roxette and the Cardigans runs out of ideas sometimes.
