Former priest convicted in 1960 Texas slaying dies at 87

A former Texas priest who was sentenced to life in prison for the 1960 killing of a schoolteacher who came to him for confession has died, prison officials said. John Bernard Feit, 87, died Thursday afternoon at Huntsville Hospital, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said. Prosecutors said Garza went to Feit for confession at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McAllen, Texas.

Slain Va. officer to be buried in Ma.

A Virginia police officer who was shot and killed on her first day on the job is being honored in the western Massachusetts communities where she was born and grew up. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Springfield, followed by burial at St. Thomas the Apostle cemetery, in West Springfield.

Kansas woman says archdiocese retaliated after complaints

A woman contends in a lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas that a school principal filed a false child abuse complaint in retaliation for her complaining that her daughter was being bullied at a diocesan school. Melissa Schroeder of Shawnee also named Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its school principal, Maureen Engen, in a lawsuit filed in May in Johnson County District Court.
