A year after advancing all the way to the Stanley Cup Final in their inaugural season, the Golden Knights are one win away from moving past the San Jose Sharks in the post-season again as the teams head into Game 5 (10 p.m. EDT, NBCSN) on Thursday night. After losing the series opener at San Jose, Vegas has won three straight and will be looking to close it out back on the ...

Senators Fans – Who Should You Cheer For?

Sadness has befallen the Ottawa Senators’ fan base again, as the Belleville Senators failed to make the AHL playoffs in the last regular season game. Now, almost all of the Senators players, signed and unsigned, are done for the summer. However, I don’t know about you, but I’m not done with hockey yet. During the last week, the Stanley Cup Playoffs have blown wide open. This is perfect for Senators fans, as you now can pick whoever you want to cheer for, granted that you are looking for ...

San Jose Sharks on the Brink

After a win to open their playoff series against the Vegas Golden Knights, the San Jose Sharks have lost three straight and are now a game away from ending a season which once held Stanley Cup expectations.  There was no mystery when it came to what the Sharks needed to do. We even developed a checklist to follow and the team hasn’t.  On top of it, the playoffs often come down to health and the Sharks simply don’t have that either. Several top players are playing banged up, with one in par...

How the Lightning Melted Down in 3 Easy Steps

After having one of the greatest regular seasons in NHL history, the Tampa Bay Lightning went from the top of the hockey world to the laughingstock of the league in less than one week. To put it bluntly, the Lightning were embarrassed by the Columbus Blue Jackets in Round 1, getting outplayed , out willed and out hearted in each game of their historically quick series. Now, if you’re a fan of the Lightning, you have inevitably been asked one simple question throughout the last week – how di...

The San Jose Sharks Can’t Afford Another Loss

from Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News, Logan Couture was asked straight up: After three straight losses, two decisively, what gives the Sharks hope like they can still win this series against the Vegas Golden Knights? “We’re still playing. We’ve got a chance,” Couture said. “It’s never over until it’s over. We need to go home, where we’ve been good all year, played two good games to start this series at home, and try and win a game, and that’s that.” There was a lot to like abo...

Sharks Overwhelmed by Golden Knights

In their playoff series against the Vegas Golden Knights, the San Jose Sharks are getting beaten in most every way imaginable. They are getting beaten at the start and beaten at the finish. They are getting beaten physically and mentally. Even when the Sharks have a man advantage, they can’t beat the Golden Knights; the Sharks’ power play has allowed two goals, which offsets the two they scored themselves. If all this wasn’t bad enough, Sharks netminder Martin Jones has seen nine goals go by...

Canucks’ News and Rumors: NHL Draft, Soderstrom, DiPietro & Kielly

While the hockey world is watching some crazy first-round action in the Stanley Cup playoffs (who would have thought the wild-card Columbus Blue Jackets would be up 3-0 on the Tampa Bay Lightning?), Vancouver Canucks fans are watching other fans’ teams play and looking to their own team’s future. In this set of news and rumors, I want to focus on the young Canuck prospects or potential Canuck players. Here’s a look at the upcoming NHL Draft, and two of the young goalie prospects already in t...

Mark Stone is unstoppable right now for the Golden Knights

What Mark Stone is doing for the Vegas Golden Knights through three games against the San Jose Sharks should come as no surprise. Stone has an NHL-best six goals and is tied for first on the team with eight points, already matching his career best in the postseason set during the Ottawa Senators' run to the Eastern Conference Final in 2017 in 16 fewer games. As part of Vegas' second line that was built through free agency last summer (Paul Stastny) and separate trades in September (Max...

Flyers’ Free Agency Targets: Karlsson & Karlsson

The Philadelphia Flyers would be best served this offseason by targeting Karlsson, or perhaps Karlsson. On second thought, they should go after both of them. I’m talking, of course, about Erik Karlsson of the San Jose Sharks, and William Karlsson of the Vegas Golden Knights. The Flyers are getting a close look at both of these potential free agents while they battle against each other in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The addition of these two talented players would fill major h...

Joe Thornton delivers crushing head shot to Tomas Nosek

One of the NHL's newest rivalries is certainly reaching fever pitch after San Jose Sharks veteran Joe Thornton delivered an uncharacteristically questionable hit on Vegas Golden Knights forward Tomas Nosek. Nosek attempted to corral a loose puck in his own end with his head down and didn't see Thornton coming. A split-second after Nosek got rid of the puck, Thornton skated by and delivered a crushing shot to Nosek's head, earning a two-minute minor for an illegal check to the head...

The team announced on Sunday afternoon that it has officially signed Nikita Gusev, the leading scorer in the KHL this past season, to a one-year, entry-level contract. Golden Knights Tie Series With Sharks

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Mark Stone scored the tiebreaking goal on a power play created by a penalty that negated an apparent San Jose goal and the Vegas Golden Knights responded after blowing a three-goal lead in the first period to beat the Sharks 5-3 on Friday night to tie their playoff series at one game apiece. The teams packed an entire game into the opening minutes with the Golden Knights scoring three goals in the first 6:11 and the Sharks rallying for three more in the final 3:01 to become...

Are Kings GM Rob Blake and veteran NHL coach Todd McLellan closer to a reunion?

Rob Blake was a defenseman in his 19th season when Todd McLellan was a rookie coach in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks in 2008-09. Blake played for McLellan for two seasons before retiring after the 20th and final year of his Hall of Fame career in 2009-10. The chances of their reunion increased significantly Friday, when a Canadian website reported that McLellan would no longer be considered a candidate for the Buffalo Sabres’ coaching opening and that he could land the Kings’ vacant position....

San Jose Sharks’ Poise Comes Up Large

In the playoff opener this season against the Vegas Golden Knights, the more poised team won again. Vegas and San Jose, Game 1 The Sharks outplayed the Golden Knights for the first 40 minutes, winning battles, getting high quality shots and finding the right balance between physical play and team discipline. Maple Leafs Need to Learn From Past Mistakes

Game 1 of the Toronto Maple Leafs-Boston Bruins series is tonight with fans from both sides waiting for puck drop with bated breath. Last season’s Game 7 loss is still fresh in everybody’s mind. Toronto hopes that the acquisitions of John Tavares and Jake Muzzin will be enough to tip the scales in their favour this time around. But it is still hard to shake that uneasy feeling that comes when facing the Bruins. The Maple Leafs have played the Bruins four times this season and won only one of...

Unlucky Ducks Must Improve Draft Position

Wednesday’s draft lottery did not go as the Anaheim Ducks and their fans wanted. It did go largely as expected, with the Ducks having the eighth-best odds to secure the No. 1 pick or at least a top-three pick. However, instead of obtaining the No. 8 pick, they fell one spot to No. 9. That’s not even the highest pick the Ducks have had in a decade. In 2012, they drafted Hampus Lindholm No. 6 overall in a season where they finished with the same amount of points that they did this season. Now ...
