Sarah & Tom’s Gorgeous Garden Wedding At Redbrow Gardens

Sarah & Tom Today’s gorgeous couple, Sarah and Tom had a very specific vision in mind for their wedding day “We didn’t want the classic wedding, instead we wanted to hold a party for our friends and family outdoors in a beautiful garden setting somewhere where people could relax and enjoy the whole day together and then party on into the night at. We were hoping to find a venue like this that would also let us organise and bring in everything ourselves, bonus points if it could also be booked fo...

Comment on better chocolate babka by Sarah

Do you know what temperature the bread/filling will be when done? Mind seemed woefully underdone at 30 minutes but got quite brown afterwards.

Comment on sheet pan chicken tikka by Sarah

This recipe is wonderful and has become one of my regulars. It is so easy to make and it also very easy to double and scale up. I usually make the marinade the night before and also cut up the cauliflower. Then when I need to cook it is pretty much just ready to put into the oven. I love it and everyone I have shared it with has loved it too. Thanks for another great recipe!

Medicare guidance: Navigating the maze of prescription drug coverage

By Scott Welsh Eileen Swenson has a drug problem. Like tens of thousands of other Americans, she suffers from Type 2 diabetes, and is treated with injectable insulin. The costs of the drugs she needs to control her diabetes has skyrocketed in recent years. She fears, like many others, what the new year will hold for her drug co-pays and overall costs. In 2019, she paid $70 per month on average, then hit the coverage gap, in October. Her monthly costs then rose to $160 per month for the remainder...

Kick Ass or Die

Well, shit.  That’s about the only articulate thing I can say about 2020. To be fair, I’m out of practice. However, I’d also  guess I’m not the only person stuck in the space between “there are a lot of things that should be said about this year” and “dear god, I’m sick of people talking about this year.” A space that i believe can be most accurately described like this:  Well. Shit.  Sixteen years ago I started writing stories on the internet (about the adventures of renovating houses)...

Facebook is working on Neighborhoods, a Nextdoor clone based on local groups

Using social networks to connect with neighbors and local services has surged during the Covid-19 pandemic, and Facebook — with 2.7 billion users globally — is now looking at how it can tap into that in a more direct way. In the same week that it was reported that Nextdoor is reportedly gearing up to go public, Facebook has started to test a Nextdoor clone, Neighborhoods, which suggests Facebook-generated Neighborhood groups (with a capital N, more on that below) local to you to join to conne...

Bluesy Electric Guitar Mug

Teles and SGs and Strats, oh my. Artist Sarah Tippin's rustic handmade mug is a tribute to musicians and fans everywhere. Starting with a clay block on a potter's wheel, Sarah spins and sculpts each stoneware vessel before adding a hand-pulled handle to complete her creation. The piece is then dipped, brushed, and given its unique electric guitar painted imagery before being coated with a light layer of glaze for a remarkable sheen. Handmade in Maryland.

What’s in Store for 2021 That Could Top This Year?

The little gingko grove in Salvisa, Kentucky. Rose Cooper photo. I am reading Julian Barnes’s rollicking and upending book about death, entitled Nothing to Be Frightened Of. Well, I am frightened. I don’t dwell on death, but the end is nigh—of this growing season at the very least. We had our first patchy frost a week ago. I am trying desperately to gain a little control over reality. Some things are simpler than others. I ritualize fall garden cleanup by doing nothing. Little tommies. C...

Comment on whole wheat chocolate oat cookies by Sarah

Just yesterday I made a similar recipe from Bon Appetit, but it called for more butter and more sugar, which made it an excessively rich and heavy cookie that I didn’t actually enjoy (is it possible to dislike a chocolate cookie? Sadly, yes.) I was going to experiment and lighten it up but you’ve done it, so thanks!
