Five Life Changes to Become More Supportive

Last week I had an eye opening chat with one of my favorite people, Shelley Benhoff. You can watch it on YouTube here. I asked Shelley about her advice for girls and women who are interested in a STEM/tech career. I also asked her for advice to guys who work with women in STEM, and how they can be more supportive. This has really been on my mind lately (as I was getting ready to talk to her about it), and I just can’t stop thinking about it. I recently woke up with some very specific ideas I th...

Delhi Woman Revives Grandma’s ‘Secret’ Parsi Spice Mixes; Exports Across The Globe

Shelley Subawalla in Delhi is taking generations of Parsi family masalas and chutneys recipes to the world through ‘Zarin’s Secrets’ – named after her grandmother. There remain few things that invoke the same sense of joy, nostalgia and unparalleled taste the way a grandmother’s cooking does. For me, it was my nani’s aloo parathe and pudina chutney, the taste of which I have spent years trying to find and recreate. For Shelley Subawalla, it was her grandmother’s Parsi-style kadhi-chawal and ...

The 20 best Frankenstein films – ranked!

With Emma Stone lined up to play a female version of the monster in Poor Things, we rate a century’s worth of cinema inspired by Shelley’s novelDoctor Stein injects “DNA solution” into an African American multiple amputee (he is a Vietnam veteran), but there is an “RNA problem” and things go horribly wrong. This Blaxploitation attempt to do for Frankenstein what Blacula did for Dracula edges into this list only because its sheer ineptitude entertained me more than competently filmed snoozefests ...

Sci-fi movies leave me empty. Isn't the real world dramatic enough? | Prove me wrong

Science fiction is just a bunch of loud noises, special effects and unbelievable plotlines, argues Alison Rourke. Shelley Hepworth tries to prove her wrongAlison: Shelley, I think sci-fi movies are a waste of time. If I’m going to spend a couple of hours watching something, I want the characters, and how they relate to each other, to be the hero of the story. When I watch sci-fi, it seems like the machines, the special effects and the fantasy are the main point of the film. I know for some peopl...

'There are plenty of schlongs in art' – Maggi Hambling defends her nude sculpture of Mary Wollstonecraft

Her tribute to the feminist icon caused outrage at last month’s unveiling, but the artist has no regrets. She hits back at her critics – and explains why this women’s rights pioneer had to be nakedMaggi Hambling is listing her favourite sculpted penises. “The Elgin marbles,” she says. “Michelangelo’s David. And Shelley’s, though it is rather small.” She means the Shelley memorial, Edward Onslow Ford’s attempt to depict the sea-shrunken corpse of the drowned poet. She takes a drag on her cigarett...

Quick holiday book recommendations - Mary Shelley, Bill Mauldin, and Wakanda Files

by Mike RhodeA few books that would make good gifts have come in -- well, a lot have, but I'm behind like everyone else these days. Part of my problem is that, as an editor, I assigned two of these to academic reviewers for the International Journal of Comic Art, and then I read those reviewers opinions... so I've linked to those reviews as well. Comment on german pancakes by deb

In reply to Shelley. The butter is to butter the dishes. You are correct — it is not written clearly or correctly; I will fix this. While this recipe was my go-to for many years and works just fine, I’ve since published what I’d consider an even better one — puffier, more dramatic, easier to make, and more foolproof. You can find it here: extra-billowy dutch baby pancake

Comment on german pancakes by Shelley

Hi Deb! I make this recipe often but am reaching out cause I’m wondering if you’ve made any changes to this recipe since you posted it FOURTEEN years ago! (Wow!) The butter has always confused me. Does it go in the batter or is it for greasing the pan? Second, every time I’ve made this it’s nearly burnt after the first 20 minutes, do you really cook it for a full 30?

Shelly Hill – Riding Shotgun With Charlie #89 ~ VIDEO

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- I met Shelley Hill at the Gun Rights Policy Conference in Chicago in 2018. We were both presenters at AMMcon (Alternative Multi-Media Conference) and GPRC that year. I was excited to make a stop outside of Atlanta on the Summer Tour 2020 to have Brian & Shelley on the stagecoach. Brian has a background in martial arts and got into firearms after a course with Massad Ayoob.  Shelley was in the medical field.  They’ve known each other since they were teens. And as adul...

Why schools should not teach general critical-thinking skills

Being an air-traffic controller is not easy. At the heart of the job is a cognitive ability called 'situational awareness' that involves 'the continuous extraction of environmental information [and the] integration of this information with prior knowledge to form a coherent mental picture'. Vast amounts of fluid information must be held in the mind and, under extreme pressure, life-or-death decisions are made across rotating 24-hour work schedules. So stressful and mentally demanding is the job ...
