Giant LS3 Intake Manifold Dyno Shootout!

Way back in 2015, we performed the mother of all LS intake tests by running 20 different intakes designed for cathedral-port heads . That test included every cathedral-port intake we could get our hands on, including the various factory versions. The problem with doing the mother of all intake tests for the cathedral-port guys is that it left out the LS3 owners. GM eventually replaced the cathedral-port heads with high-flow, rectangular-port heads when they introduced the LS3, L92, and L76 motor...

FinnAccuracy’s BDC-system explained. What do you use for Long Range Shooting?

As you can imagine from the name Finnaccuracy is from Finland. They invent a lot of clever things for long range shooting, like the MSR reticle for instance. Ever since WWII and Simo Häyhä’s (nicknamed White Death) adventures against the Russians Finland has a name and respect in sniping. It’s probably no coincidence that the […] Read More … The post FinnAccuracy’s BDC-system explained. What do you use for Long Range Shooting? appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

Overmatch: On Bullets, Bombers, and Taking the Right Path (Brief Thoughts 004)

A warning against romanticism in military planning. In the early 1940s, the US Army Air Corps (USAAC) made a fateful decision that would affect the lives of tens of thousands of men over the next decade. Two years prior, the Army had just begun testing her newest bomber, the XB-17. This was not yet the slow, […] Read More … The post Overmatch: On Bullets, Bombers, and Taking the Right Path (Brief Thoughts 004) appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

A Uncertain Future: The Desensitization of Violence in America

At what point does someone else’s business become ours? Two days ago I flew on a Delta flight from Nashville to Salt Lake City, I was seated in Economy Comfort, the first row behind first class, directly behind two boys in first class, perhaps about 10 and 14 years old. As soon as they were seated both boys pulled out their iPads and started playing a game. The youngest one was holding his iPad up high so that it was impossible for those behind him NOT to see it. He was playing a game wher...

The Gripping Hand: A Pragmatic Perspective on Improving Infantry Lethality Through Marksmanship

In examining the future of infantry capability, we must not only be aware of potential technological solutions, but of the need to re-think and re-work what it means to train and prepare troops for future battlefields. At the core of this is the simple matter of man and rifle, of marksmanship. Yet in this, we […] Read More … The post The Gripping Hand: A Pragmatic Perspective on Improving Infantry Lethality Through Marksmanship appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

Saddam’s Mid-Range “Sniper” Rifle: The Tabuk Sniper

Created during the Iran-Iraq War, the Tabuk Sniper is one of those oddballs of historical firearms. Although referred to as a “Sniper” rifle, it really never was one to begin with.
