The Other Side On The Givani Smith Incident

Post-OHL Trade Deadline: New Otters

With the OHL trade deadline officially passed, the Erie Otters (and their fans) can get settled in for a less-volatile second half of the season. The Otters have made their moves and solidified their roster with a couple of key trades — most notably, the trade with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds involving Taylor Raddysh and Jordan Sambrook in exchange for 2017 first-rounder Hayden Fowler and a whopping nine draft picks. The second trade that came just the day before the deadline involved Otters...

Exit Lines: “The Parisian Woman”

To paraphrase Robert De Niro’s observation in Casino, that Vegas does for wise guys what Lourdes does for humpbacks and cripples, then Broadway does the same for film stars, rejuvenating and legimitizing them after career setbacks. The last time Oscar nominee Uma Thurman was onstage was in 1999, when she appeared in a stylish (and unsuccessful) revival of The Misanthrope. Classically equipped co-star Roger Rees had a much easier time of it than she did, and she returned to Hollywood and peak Uma...

Erie Otters Finding Their Stride

The Erie Otters have now played ten games in the 2017-18 season. We have a far clearer picture of how this team is shaping up, but there’s still a lot of unknowns to look forward to in the coming weeks and months. Much of the Otters’ success will have to come from the successful integration of key new pieces, coupled with the influence of veteran players still on the roster. This is a younger Otters team, with the average age being under 18. Players with more experience under their belts are tra...

Whoa! Did Rachel Bilson Dump Hayden Christensen Over An Affair With Emma Roberts?!

We were genuinely shocked to hear about Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson splitting after being together for nearly a decade, not to mention the fact of the two having a young child together. The couple themselves haven't spoken about what happened, but we've heard various reports it was all about personality clashes. But it may have been so much worse! harry hoo, nick yemana, and the persistence of racism on mainstream tv

My "comedy before bed" TV watching -- the habit of a lifetime, and the surest way for me to fall asleep -- has gone retro again.* I watched "Get Smart" end-to-end and am now making my way through "Barney Miller".Harry Hoo, Dr. No, and "Craw, not Craw!"Get Smart was a TV comedy conceived by funny men Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, and piloted by the amazing Leonard Stern. It's part James Bond spoof and part Inspector Clouseau. Don Adams stars as Maxwell Smart. It was to be the one and only part Adams...

The Best Players to Never Play College Hockey

I don’t remember how this summer project got started. Maybe it was just the realization that I’ve done this for so long that a lot of the old stories that I consider canon are no longer known to most people. But anyway, the question I set out to answer was this: Who were the best players to commit to a college, but never play NCAA hockey? Criteria for my list was: 1) the player had to be committed to an NCAA school(This can be a bit muddier going back to the Dark Ages before Twitter, but ...

The Pink Pegasus Is Disneyland's Spin On The Unicorn Frappuccino

It’s only been a few days since Starbucks closed the curtain on its made-for-Instagram Unicorn Frappuccino, but the follow-up flavors are flowing. One Starbucks in California conjured up the Dragon Frappuccino, while another location is mixing up Unicorn Lemonades. But perhaps the most magically inspired drink has come from Disneyland. The Starbucks located at Downtown Disney, adjacent to the Disneyland theme park, in Anaheim, California, blended together the Pink Pegasus and served it as a sto...

Industrial Design: Disney Camera Concept

Industrial Design: Disney Camera Concept AoiroStudio Apr 20, 2017 Let's take a look at this colourful industrial design by Soo Mok of a really kid-friendly design of a camera for kids by Disney. The idea/concept behind this design is quite fitted for kids as I quote:"The Dream Camera aims to make kids’ get-a-way in Disneyland more ideal." [Perspective] How Cyanobacteria went green

One of the most important developments in Earth's history is the change from the anaerobic environment of the early Earth to the aerobic and highly oxidizing environment that we have today, with 21% atmospheric oxygen (O2) (1). Many geologists, atmospheric scientists, and biologists have studied this dramatic change in the redox state of Earth—the “great oxidation event” (2)—to understand when and how it took place. On page 1436 of this issue, Soo et al. report exciting new evidence toward answe...

Devils Need to Kick Prospect Tires

With the end of the season fast approaching and the New Jersey Devils well out of playoff contention, the focus shifts to examining options for the future. There are several players toiling in Albany and junior hockey who are eligible for an extended look. Management should be cognizant of these players when making future roster decisions. As of March 12, the Devils can make two more call-ups from Albany (emergencies notwithstanding) but can recall as many players as desired from junior hockey. ...

Listen to a Song Cut From ‘Moana’ and Sung by Two ‘Hamilton’ Stars

The best thing about Disney’s Moana is that it is unabashedly an old-school musical, with its unique setting and fantastical story adding a fresh flavor to an experience that is defined by incredible showstoppers. And like every musical ever conceived since the dawn of the form, not every track written for the film made it into the final cut. Thankfully, we live in an age of home video special features and even more thankfully, we live in an age where those special features arrive online in adv...

On Sunday evening, once it was clear that Adele would take home the Album of The Year award over Beyoncé, Solange, Bey's Grammy-winning sister, sent out a tweet. It read, "wuddup frank" and included a link to a powerful message on Frank Ocean's Tumblr page. The message detailed Ocean's reasons for boycotting this year's ceremony.
