Deep low-frequency earthquakes indicate migration of magmatic fluids beneath Laacher See

Magma could rise from the upper mantle into the middle and upper crust beneath the Laacher See Volcano (Germany). This is the result of a study conducted by the Seismological Survey of Southwest Germany, together with GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Seismological Survey of North Rhine-Westphalia. The scientists present evidence of deep and low-frequency earthquakes caused by magma movements under the Laacher See Volcano.

Climate changes triggered immigration to America in the 19th century, study finds

From Trump to Heinz, some of America's most famous family names and brands trace their origins back to Germans who emigrated to the country in the 19th century. Researchers have now found that climate was a major factor in driving migration from Southwest Germany to North America during the 19th century.

(European Geosciences Union) From Trump to Heinz, some of America's most famous family names and brands trace their origins back to Germans who emigrated to the country in the 19th century. Researchers from the University of Freiburg have now found that climate was a major factor in driving migration from Southwest Germany to North America during the 19th century. The results are published today in Climate of the Past, a journal of the European Geosciences Union.

North Korean nuclear test measured in southwest Germany

The recent nuclear test by the regime in North Korea was even measurable in Southwest Germany. Two seismic stations run by scientists of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in the Karlsruhe city center and in Durlach recorded vibrations of 6.3 in body wave magnitude in the night from Saturday to Sunday.
