Ohio Leg Passes Strict Fetal Heartbeat Abortion Ban, Guv Has Said He’ll Sign

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — No topic seemed off limits, including tales of back alleys and coat hangers, as abortion-rights supporters in Ohio fought perhaps the last battle over a twice-vetoed heartbeat abortion ban, which Gov. Mike DeWine has said he will sign. After nearly 10 years of fighting, Democrats let loose during run-up to final House and Senate approval Wednesday with lessons from slavery, predictions of economic harm, references to the book of Genesis, and testimonials about their own r...

Rebalancing our system of proper checks and balances

Congress has begun to re-assert itself. In passing resolutions against further United States military involvement in Yemen, the House and Senate relied upon Congress’ sole power to declare war. Both houses also objected to President Trump’s invocation of emergency powers to redirect money to build a wall on our southern border. Each circumstance will likely result in a court case and, possibly, an eventual U.S. Supreme Court ruling. At the same time, the Supreme Court has already heard arguments...

The Cavalier Air is a hipster-looking smart-speaker that also wirelessly charges phones

Cavalier’s approach to audio is best described as classic. It uses classic materials and styles to create audio devices that don’t look particularly uber-tech. The Air, Cavalier’s latest offering, much like its ancestor, the Maverick showcases an absolutely retro-hipster attitude by ditching the boring plastic for knit fabric, wood, and leather. The Air is essentially a combination of three things. A smart-speaker, a clock, and a wireless charger. Its unique shape allows it to be all three, as th...

A Nostalgia-Creating Smart Speaker!

We have smart-home technology coming at us from all angles now, as its popularity and presence is ever increasing. However, this product still manages to stand out from the sea of competitors, as it takes a rather retro approach to smart-design.The smart-screen speaker references the form of the original portable televisions; the blocky, angular form with the prominent control dials and two-tone finish was a familiar sight in homes of the 1970s, and now it has been brought into the modern-day! Do You Know What Your Speaker Blind Spot Is?

We all have blind spots, we just may not know what they are… Image Credit: Adam Heath So here’s an interesting question for you: could you drive your car if it didn’t have any mirrors. I’m thinking that the answer would be yes, but boy-o-boy would we all be nervous as we first backed up, and then headed off down the road. We’d have no idea what was behind us or what might be passing us on either side. Driving would turn into a bit of a nightmare. Now we all do have mirrors on our cars and th...

Speakers that let you design your own surround sound

The Museg is a pretty neat looking guitar-pick-shaped speaker. Unlike most speakers that are either squarish, cylindrical, or circular, the Museg’s use of a triangular form feels slightly unusual, but makes it deservingly eye-catching.However, it isn’t Museg’s shape that’s worth lauding, it’s its ability to use its shape along with modularity to be portable when you want it, and an immersive music setup when you need. When used individually, the Museg is a slim speaker that’s great to use solo. ...

Sure we have our voice and some body language, but is there anything else that we can use to give some impact to our speech? It turns out that the answer is yes: the stage that we are standing on. All too often, speakers don’t fully ...

This colorful, marbled speaker is made from non-recyclable plastic waste

While plastic waste, to a certain degree, can be recycled, it’s just a small percentage of the total waste out there. Certain polymers grow past their ability to be recycled because of additives, impurities, stickers, prints, etc. and this is the plastic that causes the biggest problem because it just can’t be recycled.Brighton-based design studio Gomi is trying to be a part of the solution. The Gomi speaker, designed by the studio, uses these unrecyclable plastics as its primary raw material, t...

The Surprising Mistake That Keeps Many Speakers From Getting Booked

In 2007, I was an agent at one of the country’s largest speakers’ bureaus, and I had a meeting with an aspiring speaker. During the meeting, he told me: “I believe anyone can benefit from my presentations. And if I just have an audience and a microphone, I can help people. My message is helpful to everyone, just give me the chance and you’ll see.” I smiled and nodded, said something polite, and closed out the meeting as quickly as I could. But I was really thinking: “Hmmm. So YOU are what the wo...
