Guest Post: Linda Morrison

I am a finder, and maker. I am a 67-year-old woman,  I am lucky  I am happy And I found my tribe.     I hate to travel, but the opportunity to spend a week roaming around Provence  with Corey as a guide seemed like a worthwhile endeavor.   Corey took us to a small market in her village,   while the others in the group shopped and wandered,   I watched as the vendors did a dance that was familiar to me.   I loved being a street vendor,        For many years I sold at a weekly flea market in ...

16 Books I Read in October

Happy November, my friends. If you haven't yet voted, please make a plan to do so tomorrow! (And wear your mask.) I read 16 books in October, and most of them were audiobooks and almost all were for pure escapism. Maybe one of these days I'll return to books that make me think, but last month I wasn't in the mood. That said, I was surprised to find several 5-star reads/listens on my list. October was an awesome reading month. Here are my brief thoughts. I wrote longer reviews for some of these...

Alaska Airlines is suspending flights to cities in Oregon and Washington as wildfires continue to choke the Northwest

Alaska Airlines Alaska Airlines suspended flights to Portland, Oregon, and Spokane, Washington on Monday, citing smoke from nearby wildfires. The suspension was expected to last until at least Tuesday afternoon. Although flights have continued largely interrupted since the fires began, Alaska said heavy smoke and poor air quality made it impossible to safely continue operations in the two cities. Wildfires have burned across the Northwest in recent weeks, following a summer with record-hi...

Photos show Apple stores being boarded up across the US as protests over George Floyd's death sweep the nation (AAPL)

Some Apple stores in the United States have been boarded up as protests continue across the country in response to the death of George Floyd, a black man, who was killed after a white police officer in Minneapolis knelt on his neck for over eight minutes. Apple recently closed some of its retail stores in cities where protests are happening. The decision to keep certain stores closed comes after the company was just starting to reopen some retail locations after coronavirus-related closures. ...

Lightning: Looking Forward to the 2021 Seattle Expansion Draft

For the Tampa Bay Lightning, the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft was relatively painless. While the Vegas Golden Knights built a Stanley Cup contender using leverage granted by the NHL, the Lightning managed to navigate the tricky situation relatively well, ridding themselves of Jason Garrison’s contract by offering up Nikita Gusev, a 2017 second-round selection and a 2018 fourth-rounder. While that’s wasn’t an inexpensive move, it was necessary to clear needed cap space while moving on from Garriso...

Coronavirus fallout: Toilet paper alternatives clogging toilets, sewers

Jeff Taylor said he has learned a few things since widespread panic ensued amid the coronavirus outbreak, perhaps most importantly that there is no substitute for toilet paper. Now the San Clemente resident of 15 years is spending $11,200 to replace the sewer pipe running beneath his house on Calle Mendoza, nestled in the hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean, to the city connection in the street. A sign hangs at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival venue Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, in Las Vegas. A d...

Stormy pattern to ramp back up across Northwest following early March dry spell

Americans Coping With the Coronavirus Are Clogging Toilets

Many Americans seem to be following the recommendations of public health officials to clean and sterilize countertops, doorknobs, faucets and other frequently touched surfaces in their homes. The problem? Many are then tossing the disinfectant wipes, paper towels and other paper products they used into the toilet. The result has been a coast-to-coast surge in backed-up sewer lines and overflowing toilets, according to plumbers and public officials, who have pleaded with Americans to spare the nati...

Storm to dump feet of snow in western US high country, may end up being a 'March Miracle'

It's way too early to write winter off in the western United States as a combination of an injection of Arctic air and a developing storm will set the stage for soaking coastal rain, travel-snarling snow and frigid conditions.Following a dose of chilly air on Friday, a push of Arctic air will invade the northern Rockies and interior Northwest this weekend. Even though the surge of Arctic air appears to be more gradual than some blasts that have invaded the region in years past, by the mid...

Projecting Oilers’ 2022 Olympics Participants

The only hockey tournament in the world that can come close to rivaling the excitement of the Stanley Cup playoffs is the Winter Olympics. After participating in every Winter Olympics between 1998 and 2014, the NHL did not send its players to the 2018 Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. While there are still several important issues to work out, there appears to be some hope for a new deal between the NHL and International Olympic Committee (IOC) that would allow the best players in the world ...
