This Last Minute Decision Ended Up Being One Bride’s Favorite Part Of Her Wedding

A weather report for "chance of rain" ended up creating this bride's favorite part of her wedding day. A Cleveland Browns football player and his bride wed at the majestic Carmel Mountain Ranch Estate in San Diego. With rain clouds looming near Ever After Events seamlessly pulled together a last-minute decision to erect a clear tent over the ceremony space and the result was pure magic. The tented ceremony created an intimate feeling for guests who were surrounded by lush greenery and white f...

Spring

I’m so happy to get out and see Spring flowers. Nature really does carry on no matter what is happening to humans. We joined our friend again for a walk along the Seine. Nothing better than the Eiffel Tower with roses in the foreground. Ready for a closeup. The roof of the newest Russian Orthodox church in Paris. Something to do with art and sea creatures. I didn’t stop to check it out. Hard to beat that view. I went to get a blood test the other day-just a...

Life of the Garden

So much life happens in the garden. Right now the birds are singing, the bees are buzzing, and newly returned (human) visitors are snapping pictures or leaning in for a closer look at a flower. Our theme this year is “Life in the Garden” and I cannot think of a more fitting one considering our current circumstances. With so many still staying home more often than not, the garden calls to us. We want to get our hands dirty, spend time outdoors, and create something beautiful. Gail, Joe, and I hav...

A rare glimpse into the lives of a young couple in lockdown in Iran. Filmed over several weeks in quarantine, Sara and Mohammad Reza attempt to process the devastating loss of a family member to Covid-19. The news of coronavirus spreading in Tehran is the backdrop to their lives indoors, they see the outside world from their window, neighbours setting off fireworks and street musicians playing for spare change. As they approach Persian new year, usually a time of family reunion, the couple find ...

Perfect Lemon Cupcakes

These lemon cupcakes are bursting with lemon flavor! They are moist, light, and made with fresh lemons rather than extracts and flavorings. I make these the same way that I make my tried-and-true vanilla cupcakes; that cupcake recipe is one that works every single time and is used in bakeries around the world. To turn it into a lemony cupcake, I load the batter up with lemon zest and give the cupcakes a big swirl of lemon buttercream frosting.Read the full article here

Still

Still in quarantine, or at least self isolation, until May 11th but I wouldn’t be surprised if it went longer. The last I heard they are going to start small with children going to school but restaurants won’t be open. We managed to get some things delivered-not food but things like wine and milk. Strawberries and asparagus have arrived, but not in huge amounts. I’ve had both in the last week which is such a treat. This photo was taken in Provence many years ago. This photo was taken...

Six on Saturday – After the Rain

I’ve been moving a lot of plants around over the last couple of weeks partly to clear the Big Border for edibles but also to address some of the plants that have outgrown their space or just aren’t looking great any more.  It has made be really aware of how dry the soil was becoming and I have found myself having to get the hose out several times a week to try... Spring Flowers

I miss going out for walks and discovering flowers blooming in Spring. Before we moved from our old place, I walked with a friend early every morning and it was great to find signs of Spring. On the Promenade Plantée I used to see Japanese ladies not only doing Tai Chi but arm movements as they walked and I started doing them too to keep my arms and shoulders flexible so when I was with my friend, we would incorporate them into our walk as well. Since we moved the only walk I had was with Mauri...

Springing into flower

Springtime often has me in one of two places – laying on the ground to get a good look at a spring bulb in flower or staring up toward the sky at the tree buds just opening. From the highest highs to the lowest lows, the slow warming of the soil calls the bravest of blossoms to open. I’m so glad they heed the call. We all could use some flowers right about now.  The picture featured at the top is of one of our earliest daffodils (Narcissus ‘Ice Follies’). This particular group is blooming i...
