Hamburg, Germany: Unusual Experiences For An Unusual City

One doesn’t normally think that a German city will be inherently weird. I mean, it’s Germany after all, a country known for its stoic adherence to orderliness and things that just make sense. But the northern cities have always been a little bit separated from the rest of the country; proximity to sea routes bringing in customs and traditions from around the world. Because of this unusual history, Hamburg today is an unusual place, and I mean that in the very best way possible. It’s liberal, it...

My Favorite 2017 Travel Experiences That Were Just Plain Fun

It’s that time of year again, when we all reflect on the previous 12 months and for me that means reflecting on the great travel experiences I was fortunate enough to enjoy. Today I want to do something a little different though. Rather than highlight the most amazing, transformative experiences I want to instead share a few distinct moments that were just fun. Sure, we learn and grow as people when we travel, but the experience is also supposed to be fun and for me, these moments were amongst ...

11 Hostel-Style Lodges for the New International Nomad

How to jigsaw a twin bed (or a few), plus desks, shelves, and closets into a tiny room? So often the dorm puzzle is solved in the most cost-conscious and Soviet drab of ways. But privately built alternatives have been cropping up in Denmark, Berlin, and other European cities that are so inventive, we’ve found ourselves looking to student housing for small-space living ideas. A companion movement of boutique hostels is equally compelling—and has a considering bunk rooms for our next vacations. He...

My Favorite Not To Miss Experiences in Hamburg, Germany

Hamburg is one of Europe’s great cities that for some reason still stays off the radar of many tourists, and I’m not sure why. It’s easy to reach, it’s fun to explore and is completely unlike most other cities in Germany. I recently returned from my third visit to the city and each time I’ve learned to appreciate it even more. To help guide your own visit to Hamburg, today I want to share some of my personal favorite experiences in the city, from the conventional to the slightly unusual. Beatl...

My 6 Favorite Moments On and Off Germany’s Martin Luther Trail

I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Germany many times over the years, yet no two trips have been the same. Thanks to the width and breadth of experiences found throughout the country, there’s plenty to see and experience to fill still many dozens more trips. Most recently though my mission was clear, to follow the so-called Martin Luther Trail in this, the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. I didn’t only keep to the trail though, I also included a few stops off the route but nearby, places ...

Bad break for Arsenal old boy Ryo Miyaichi

Do you remember Ryo Miyaichi? Back in 2010, Arsene Wenger signed Ryo Miyaichi. Miyaichi was an unknown at the time. He only made a handful of first-team appearances, spending loan spells at Feyenoord, Bolton, Wigan and FC Twente. In 2015, Miyaichi eventually left Arsenal to sign for German club St. Pauli. Bad ...
