A contact tracing app could help stop the spread of COVID-19 only if billions of people use it — here's how to make that happen

Daniel Schreiber is the CEO and cofounder of Lemonade, an insurance company powered by artificial intelligence and behavioral economics. He says that contact tracing — a technology that to notifies you when someone you were in close quarters with is diagnosed with COVID-19 — could help curb the pandemic, but only if governments step aside and let large multinational corporations take the lead.  Schreiber explains that consumers will be more willing to give their data away to a business than to...

Free Domestic Lounge Access for United Gold Elites and Higher

Most people think the United club exclusion means United Gold elites don't get lounge access on domestic trips (unless they're a United Club member). But that's wrong. I don't believe I've written about this in two years so it seems worth sharing. The trick - that the initiated know but most do not - is that any Star Gold member can access any Star Alliance lounge in the U.S. other than United's clubs provided they are flying on Star Alliance airlines out of that airport that day and can phys...

United Eliminates Contract Lounge Benefit For Star Alliance Customers

United has been inviting its business class customers to contract lounges in about 30 cities, and they’ve extended this option to Star Alliance members are well even though they aren’t required to. Now United has mostly eliminated the practice. Except at two airports United no longer invites Star Alliance Gold members (who aren’t flying business class) to use contract lounges. This move (naturally) follows one made a few years ago by Delta. Continue reading United Eliminates Contract Lounge Bene...

India's aviation market has been a mess. Jet Airways is out of business. oneworld member Kingfisher is no more. And Star Alliance member Air India is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. The Best Business Travel Credit Cards for Digital Nomads

Posted: 11/16/19 | November 16th, 2019 One of the best parts about running a business is the cool business travel credit cards you get access to. These cards tend to have a lot better points-earning abilities and perks than consumer cards. I’ve been running this website for eleven years and have tried a lot of cards during that time. I’m often asked by other bloggers, creators, and entrepenuers which business travel credit card is the best. Well, first, let me say, there is no “best.” Every ...

Thai Airways On Verge of Shutting Down

According to the President of Star Alliance member airline Thai Airways, the Bangkok-based carrier is on the verge of shutting down if they don’t succeed quickly in a turnaround. Over the summer the airline's President introduced a six point plan to crowd source cost cutting ideas; reduce food waste; make a ton of money flying to Sendai, Japan; collaborate with a local gas station cafe chain; and platitudes but it was (shockingly) insufficient. United Takes the Lead on Simplifying Elite Qualifying By Focusing on Spend

One of the knocks on United’s loyalty strategies over the years has been that the airline just takes what Delta does and slaps its own name on the change. When it comes to qualifying for elite status, however, United has decided to be the first mover. The airline announced on Friday that it is simplifying elite qualifying metrics and better matching them up with what people pay starting with travel in 2020 for 2021 status. Though it is simplifying the process, that doesn’t mean it’s easy to l...
