The pandemic is changing how companies like Amazon Web Services and Twilio hire software developers, as Silicon Valley rethinks the interview process (TWLO, AMZN)

Developer job interviews have gone virtual, as most Silicon Valley engineers are working from home amid the pandemic.  That's resulted in a rethinking of how these interviews are conducted: Developers are traditionally asked to solve textbook computer science problems on a whiteboard as part of the job process — something that's harder to do over videoconference.  At the same time, companies like Amazon Web Services and Twilio say that there have been benefits to the new way of doing things. Constitutional limits on government power don’t completely vanish during a crisis

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra has been quick to file lawsuits against the federal government, exhibiting a hair-trigger sensitivity to potential overreaches of government power. California’s Attorney General Defends Virus Shutdowns

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — What would normally be broad constitutional protections for freedoms of assembly, religion — even buying guns — may be curtailed when they endanger others during the coronavirus pandemic, California’s top law enforcement officer said in an interview. The state has been sued over all three during its shutdown as government officials pick winners and losers in deciding which businesses and activities can operate and which can’t. The Cork-Lined Bedroom & Writing Room of Marcel Proust, the Original Master of Social Distancing

Many of us now find ourselves stuck at home, doing our part to put a stop to the global coronavirus pandemic. Some of us are taking the opportunity to write the ambitious works of literature we've long intended to. Such an effort of creativity in confinement has no more suitable precedent than the life of Marcel Proust, who wrote much of his seven-volume masterpiece In Search of Lost Time (À la recherche du temps perdu) in bed. The Paris Review's Sadie Stein quotes Proust's biographer Diana Fus...

News of the Lakers' interest in Smith was first reported by The New York Times' Marc Stein 15 minutes after the trade deadline passed and L.A. failed to secure reserves. With less than 24 hours to go until the NBA trade deadline, it appears the Warriors are making sure they don't jeopardize their own assets. The New York Times' Marc Stein reported Wednesday afternoon that Golden State is choosing to hold both Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III out of its game against the Brooklyn Nets. Interestingly, however, Stein reported that D'Angelo Russell will play against his former team Wednesday night.

Why can’t trade associations practice law?

An opinion by the Fourth Circuit sees a big difference between legal representation of unions or complainants — idealistic, pro-rights, good in short — versus legal representation of businesses. Is that so? And should the role of the First Amendment apply equally across the two cases? I explore the case of Capital Associated Industries Inc. v.
