13 On-the-go Breakfast Spots to Fuel Up for the Day

Look, I understand the reasons to get to the mountain early: shorter lift lines, better snow, less crowds. But unless it’s a powder day, you’ll find me wandering to the mountain at about 10 a.m., aptly caffeinated and with a full belly. And I take the caffeinated/satiated part very seriously. I’m a huge breakfast fan. I grew up in New England, where bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches and black coffee reigned supreme but moved to Colorado where I discovered the magic of spicy breakfast burritos an...

California’s Prop. 19: Key things the new property tax law gives and takes away

Proposition 19, billed as “The Property Tax Transfers, Exemptions, and Revenue for Wildfire Agencies and Counties Amendment,” passed with  51.1% of California voter approval in November. As a result, 2021 will see sweeping changes in property taxes assessed on personal residences. There’s good and bad news. Let me note here that I’m going to simplify the math. Your tax base is the assessed value — the value listed on your property tax bill on which the property tax is calculated. It is typically...

Comment on key lime pie by Susie

In reply to Rachel Miller. I made this exactly as written and it is perfect. I’m wondering if a few people possibly used evaporated milk rather than sweetened condensed and that’s why theirs didn’t set. My filling was already quite thick going in.

Comment on salted caramel pretzel blondies by Susie

These are mindbendingly good. I just made our second batch for the day. My caramel was perfect but I did take it off closer to 2 minutes after the addition of the butter and cream as it was on the edge. I love the alchemy of making caramel. Such basic ingredients become liquid gold!

Vampire Dad – review

Director: Frankie Ingrassia Release date: 2020 Contains spoilersPulling itself back in time to the sixties, something the film does admirably well, Vampire Dad is a comedy that feels more like the stretched out opening to a sit-com (or perhaps a couple of episodes mashed together) than it does a feature. This does not mean it is bad, indeed it is great fun, but it means there is a missing something, which I will discuss of course. Don’t let that put you off, however. What is there works well ...

'We had no idea how to do it': YouTube's founders, investors, and first employees tell the chaotic inside story of how it rose from failed dating site to $1.65 billion video behemoth (GOOG, GOOGL)

YouTube's cofounders originally thought "a generic platform where we could host all the videos on the internet" was too bold of an idea. So for about a week, the site was a dating platform — until it wasn't.  Fifteen years later, YouTube still reigns as the leader in video, but the climb to the top wasn't easy.  "What's hard to appreciate is how quickly we had grown beyond our capacity to manage the business," said Zahavah Levine, then YouTube's general counsel and vice president of business d...

Susie & Ian: Stories From 40 Years Of Marriage

I’ll never hold myself out, as someone who does not take advice, does not take words of wisdom from those who have gone before, SO for The Memories Issue we really couldn’t think of anything more apt, than to take some time out, with couples who have already travelled the marriage path. Who have become that vision we all hold hope of when we tie the knot, who have years, and sadness and joy, and laughter and tears between them. Best U.S. Travel Agents for European Travel

I’ve worked with a good number of travel agents over the years who have booked Eye Prefer Paris Tours for their clients, establishing close working relationships with many of them and some have become friends.   As you could imagine, this is a very difficult time in the travel business, as travel has been mostly restricted around the world and flights, cruises, vacations, and other forms of travel have either been cancelled, or delayed indefinitely. Comment on crispy crumbled potatoes by Susie

In reply to Edward Kaminsky. Edward, she means to just break the cold cooked potatoes apart with your hands. No cutting. You want those “crags” and rough edges. And no, don’t cut them before you boil them. Boil them whole and chill thoroughly.
