Conan O’Brien on how to embrace an ever-changing media landscape

“Like most of the best things in my life,” Conan O’Brien explains, with a wry smile, “the success of the podcast was a complete surprise.” The answer is a typically self-effacing one from the comedian. Since launching “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” nearly two years ago, the show has quickly risen up the podcasting charts to become one of the country’s most popular. For those who have followed his 30-odd-year career in entertainment, it’s easy to see why. Quick-witted and almost superhumanly affa...

If the Dodgers are going to end their 32-year championship drought, it will happen deep in the heart of Texas. Dodger Stadium would host an American League Division Series. The postseason is scheduled to start Sept. 29 for the American League and Sept. 30 for the National League ...

Comment on blueberry boy bait by Ann

Just discovered: my mom’s copy of Pillsbury’s 1954 5th Grand National Recipe Book. It sits open beside me to page 46 and the recipe for “$2,000 Blueberry Boy-Bait” from Renny Powell of Chicago, Illinois. Hmmm. I’m not sure “modernizing” is the right word for the Cook’s Country treatment of the original recipe, which calls for 2/3 cup butter (11 Tbs) with only margarine as an option – no mention of “shortening.” The topping is 3/4 cup of the flour, white sugar, and butter mixture reserved, so mor...

Comment on ultimate zucchini bread by Susan L. Stillman

I made this zucchini bread vegan by using ground flaxseed and water to sub for the eggs (2 TBS flaxseed meal and 5 TBS water that sits for 10 minutes before using). I always make my as muffins because I can freeze muffins for longer keeping and portion control. It is true that the muffins/bread are better the next day. The baking soda taste disappears.

Conan is coming to Disrupt 2020

In 2010, TV show host Conan O’Brien was abruptly asked to give up the time slot he’d been handed just six months earlier by his longtime employer NBC. Instead, he famously gave the network the figurative finger, taking his act to the basic cable network TBS later that same year and — embraced by legions of fans who tweeted “ I’m with CoCo ” in the aftermath of the NBC fiasco — launching an online media company of his own, Team Coco . Network executives might have tried laughing off these move...

Earlier this year, people started noticing something peculiar about MTV’s schedule: The network had quietly morphed into an almost 24/7 offering of just one show. Comment on swirled berry yogurt popsicles by jjjeanie

I used this as a jumping-off point. But I didn’t have lemons, and I’m trying to cut back on sugar. So here’s what I did: ~2.5 C strawberries, cut in half or quarters, depending on size 1-2 Tbs honey (didn’t measure) 1-2 Tbs water–just to get things going. Put all into large pot, and heat slowly until berries start to release their juice. Then increase the heat to med (or med-low). Cook about 5-10 min, then mash with potato masher. Remove from heat and stir in either some yogurt (~1/3 cup) or ~2 ...
