Time Travel

The tiny little strip mall ACE Hardware a couple doors down from the drug store where I cashiered back in high school had a teeny little gun/knife counter crammed in the corner. They carried Rugers, mostly, as well as the full Buck catalog.  There were two items in that showcase I used to sometimes go daydream about on my breaks: A BuckMaster knife and a Ruger Old Army in stainless. They were expensive, but not unattainably so. A more responsible me could have rolled my pennies for a few paych...

Lovecraft Country Tried to Save Itself By Getting Timey-Wimey, But It Didn't Work

After spending quite a few episodes giving each member of its cast almost too many motivations that were beginning to make it seem as if Lovecraft Country was setting itself up for storytelling derailment, “Rewind 1921” enters the stage to confirm that yes, the series is trying to do entirely too much.Read more...

I’ll Never Forget You! (1951)

32 Days of Halloween XIIIMovie Night #11 Okay, a romance is not something we would normally use for 32 Days of Halloween. But…I mean, you’ve got not only Tyrone Power (1940’s Mark of Zorro), Ann Blyth (Mildred Pierce), but Michael Rennie (yes, The Day The Earth Stood Still). You’ve got an atomic scientist–because this is a film in the 1950s and by law you have to have at least one, I think. And you’ve got time travel, along with fear of paradoxes. So it ticks all the sci-fi boxes, I th...

Time Travel Film 2067 Can't Match Its Grand Ambitions

Filled with interesting ideas and surprising twists, 2067 has all the elements of a classic sci-fi mystery. Ultimately though, it’s stifled by that ambition, unable to tie everything together in a cohesive, satisfying way and never living up to its full, grand potential.Read more...

Time travel is theoretically possible, new calculations show. But that doesn't mean you could change the past.

Doc Brown and Marty McFly in "Back to the Future." Screenshot Time travel is possible based on the laws of physics, according to new calculations from researchers at the University of Queensland. But time-travelers wouldn't be able to alter the past in a measurable way, they say — the future would stay the same.  Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. Imagine you could hop into a time machine, press a button, and journey back to 2019, before the new coronavirus made the leap f...

Tenet Is a Frustrating, Convoluted Mess of a Motion Picture

Watch Alex Winters' and Keanu Reeves' original audition tape for BILL & TED

Maybe the next next Bill & Ted movie can have Evil Robot Bill & Ted go back in time across dimensions to try and stop these two auditioning for the movie in the first place (then our Bill & Ted obviously have to go back and stop them, and then the robots end up performing the audition in the stead of Alex Winters and Keanu Reeves, which is exactly what causes them to cast in the film in the first place). My headcanon fanfic aside: it's kind of cool to see them both try to play the opposite p...

The Dukes of Hazzard hit the television in 1979, and the Duke boys' famous General Lee was a 1969 Dodge Charger, then a ten-year-old model. The Charger nameplate itself was a year in the grave when the CBS series debuted, having last been seen on a plush-bottomed Thunderbird/Monte Carlo competitor that was a badge-engineered Chrysler Cordoba (or the Cordoba was a vice versa...).*If the series were to be launched today, the Charger would be a current production sedan and Roscoe and Enos would be d...

Netflix is reportedly experimenting with allowing viewers to control time

The Verge reports: Netflix is letting people choose the speed at which they want to watch something on their phone or tablet with new playback controls. Netflix will allow anyone on an Android mobile device to stream at either 0.5x or 0.75x speeds for slowed-down viewing and 1.25x or 1.5x speeds for faster watching. Those are slightly fewer options than YouTube, which allows people to slow all the way down to 0.25x speeds, and speed up by twice the normal playback speed. Playback speed options ...

Why everyone's talking about the new PALM SPRINGS movie

Back in January, the new movie Palm Springs broke a record for the highest sale at the Sundance Film Festival — by exactly 69 cents. We should have seen that as an omen. The movie began streaming on Hulu this past Friday, July 10th, and in less than a week, it has an 84% on MetaCritic and a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Those are some impressively high accolades for any movie, but especially for a RomCom by a first-time director starring Andy Samberg. But, in my humble opinion, the film deserves it...
