Report: Officials Pushed Flynn’s Saudi Nuke Project After Warnings It Broke Law

fThe Trump White House pursued a controversial nuclear energy project linked to Saudi Arabia even after warnings from career National Security Council staff and ethics officials that doing so without congressional approval would violate the law, the House Oversight Committee said in a preliminary report Tuesday. The project was pushed by a top aide to ex-National Security Advisor Mike Flynn, who served as an advisor to a company lobbying for the project, and the aide continued to stress that ...

Life Support

After the birth of their first child Tom and Sarah decided it was time to write a will and get their affairs in order. They went to a lawyer and outlined for him their ideas about how their estate should be handled. The lawyer then asked them questions about what medical means should be employed should they become severely injured. Tom spoke up, "I don't want my life regulated by some machine. I just can't stand the idea of receiving my nourishment from a bottle." Sarah took Tom's words to heart...

Erin & Tom’s Fun & Modern Engagement Party

Erin & Tom One of the things we have loved most about The Engagement Issue is that we focus on what happens after the “yes” because sometimes it feels a bit like you’re thrown overboard and expected to emerge again on your wedding day. So sharing the in-between? It’s important! For Erin and Tom, the first step was planning an utterly fun engagement party , they found a local bar (the industrial setting of The Budgie Smuggler fit the bill), hired a fabulous photographer (Gold & Grit ) and piled u...

Sea Room ~ Adam Nicolson

'I have stolen some of the light which drenches you this midnight  to wish you all the islands in the world and every one a different kind of peace." These lines from Northern Lights by Jo Shapcott have been among my most treasured poetry quotes since the day I first read them and which I'd written on the flyleaf of Sea Room by Adam Nicolson. I've used the words so many times in so many books about islands, jotted them in notebooks, sent them as a sort of blessing to friends. I'm not sure w...

Really stiff inactive sourdough starter

Really stiff inactive sourdough starter Submitted by Tom on February 17, 2019 - 2:33am. Hi. I have started a sourdough culture for the last few weeks but my sourdough starter is stiff and not bubbly from the top. Everyday with 50ml starter I add 50gm flour and 50ml water but it is super stiff but DOUBLES within 10 to 12 hours. I have seen other videos of sourdough starters and their starters are nice bubbly and runny. I live in India and I don't have access to all purpose or b...

Dennis McCarthy: A cruise down Van Nuys Blvd.’s memory lane

Tom Whitebirch pulled his 2015 GMC Acadia to the curb in front of Keyes Motors on Van Nuys Boulevard last week, and saw in his mind’s eye a short, fat kid wearing red and white checkered overalls holding up a hamburger on a plate, smiling at him. He’s not 82 now, he’s 16 – driving his 1941 Mercury Coupe with a powder blue paint job he paid $200 bucks for in 1953. Not the paint job, the whole car. A Bob’s Big Boy Restaurant used to be right here. It’s where all his pals in the Jesters, Hi Hats, a...

Tom's Town Branding

Tom's Town Branding AoiroStudioFeb 15, 2019 Mixing through branding, graphic design and typography, we've always been fans of Kevin Cantrell. Watch the Trailers for Tolkien and Catch-22, Two New Literary Films

For decades, fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings wondered if the books could ever become a film. The Beatles and John Boorman both tried to get adaptations off the ground in the 1960s and 70s, and animator Ralph Bakshi came up with his own cinematic interpretation, if only a partial one, in 1978. But now we live in a world rich with Lord of the Rings and Lord of the Rings-related material on film, thanks to the efforts of director Peter Jackson and his collaborators on not jus...

The Steep Financial & Emotional Toll Of Breaking-Up With Your Live-In Partner

Lina*, 34, used to live in the same New York City neighborhood as her boyfriend — let’s call him Tom. After dating him for about a year, Lina found she was spending more time at Tom’s apartment than her own (“It was nicer,” she notes). When the time came for Lina to renew her lease on the two-bedroom apartment she shared with a roommate, the couple decided it made more sense for her to just move into Tom’s place.“We never discussed what would happen if we broke up,” Lina says. “You know, you do...

Tom Cruise Really Was Supposed to Step Aside After ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’

We all assumed it was supposed to happen, and now we know for sure. Tom Cruise really was supposed to step aside as the Mission: Impossible lead after Ghost Protocol to make way for Jeremy Renner. That all changed, however, when Christopher McQuarrie was brought in to handle rewrites. Now, of course, it’s almost impossible to think of Mission: Impossible without Cruise. But such a reality came very close to happening. It seems to have slipped from the public consciousness now, but at one poi...
