The U.S. Coast Guard on Friday is planning to offload around 27,000 pounds of cocaine seized recently during operations off the coasts of Mexico, Central and South America.  The drugs have an estimated value of around $360 million and will be sent for destruction after it's brought to the Coast Guard's base in Miami Beach, Florida. Lifeguards, Coast Guard look for missing ocean swimmer near Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA — A search was underway Tuesday for a missing swimmer in the ocean near Santa Monica. The swimmer was last seen from shore about 11 a.m. near lifeguard tower No. 9, and authorities began a search, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Lifeguard Division. A U.S. Coast Guard lieutenant accused of amassing a cache of weapons and plotting to attack Democratic politicians and journalists was ordered held for two weeks on Thursday while federal prosecutors consider charging him with more crimes.
