Covid-19 vaccine forwarded vaccine science years, Pfizer's CEO said, and now it's time to use advances for other viral diseases, such as the flu.
"We'll be able to provide medical solutions for other devastating diseases," the CEO said.
The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine used a new method with messenger RNA to initiate the immune response. Moderna's vaccine also used mRNA.

AstraZeneca CEO Pascal Soriot says his company's COVID-19 vaccine "should remain effective" against mutated virus strains, reports The Sunday Times.
"But we can't be sure, so we're going to test that," Soriot told the newspaper.
A new virus strain discovered in the UK may be up to 70% more transmissible, according to Reuters.
At least 7 people in Japan tested positive for the new variant, reports The Associated Press.

The FDA granted emergency authorization to Pfizer and BioNTech's coronavirus vaccine on Friday evening.
The vaccine, which was found to be 95% effective in trials, was designed by BioNTech co-founder Ugur Sahin in one day: January 25.
In fact, according to The Wall Street Journal's podcast, Sahin designed the vaccine in just a few hours.
