Appeals Court Denies Immunity To University Officials Who Apparently Banned A Christian Student Group Just Because They Didn't Like It (techdirt)

The administrators of the University of Iowa have just learned a hard (and possibly expensive) lesson about free speech. Of course, as a publicly-funded university, it will be the taxpayers that foot the bill, but hopefully this recent Eighth Circuit Appeals Court decision [PDF] will head off future extractions of tax dollars from people who didn't violate anyone's rights. This decision affirms the lower court's determination that the University of Iowa's decision to make a Chiristian student ...

‘Writer Directory’ Offers More Than Information

Few books have come my way as generous and wise about writers and writing as this one. The title Writer Directory: A Book of Encounters takes as its model the phonebooks of long ago. But forget that. Remember this: The author, A. Robert Lee, is a British-born, globe-trotting, retired professor now living in Spain, whose heavy academic laurels disguise a common touch so light that reading him feels as charmed as floating on air. EyeCorner Press, 2019 His encounters with more than two ...

Bentley Little Recommendations

I have several Bentley Little novels, including a really nice limited edition from Cemetery Dance. But... I still have to read his books. Also, I noticed that many of his titles are now with Cemetery Dance, and the eBooks tend to be affordable (usually $4.99 or $5.99). So which ones should I read first? I'm most interested in the books now published by Cemetery Dance, such as The Mailman; The Collection; The Walking; University; The Association; etc. And newer books like The Bank and...
