Oasis

There is a popular restaurant built in 1982 called Oasis. It sits high above Lake Austin and is an institution as they say and calls itself the “Sunset Capital of Texas”. There are four terraces and in the summer it is packed with happy, sun loving people. I, however, went on a cold, chilly January day and had to sit inside. The menu is exactly the same as the last time I ate there years ago. I’ll have to visit in the Summer. The entrance.. This was outside. I’m sure it’s busy in th...

Rainbow

I have a great view from my apartment and can see some magnificent sunsets. I face East and the sun sets behind my building so while I don’t see the actually sunset right in front of me, I get really wonderful sunsets when the light reflects on the clouds. I’ve had some extraordinary sunsets. But, if it’s been raining as the sun sets, I see some fantastic rainbows. Here are three photos I took the other day of probably the best rainbow I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t get the whole thing but I got som...

Mont Saint Michel

We were very close to Mont Saint Michel and had to make another visit. We went very early and escaped a large crowd but were in time to see the garbage men who were required to use tractor like vehicles to remove garbage on the narrow streets. Here it was in the distance, over 1000 years old. A partial reflection. It is surrounded by water at high tide. As you can see, the tide was out. The entrance. Joan of Arc. The beautiful cloister. A view of the water...

Chasing the Sunset

I love being out when the sun is setting and always hope I am in a good place for a photo. Near the bridge leading to the Eiffel tower. Further back. Not the best shot but it’s hard to beat the Eiffel Tower in a photo. The bridge is covered with the dreadful “love locks” as you can see. And after the sun set from our apartment.

Along the Seine

With the Confinement going on, just about the only interesting walk is along the Seine which is very close to where I live. I’ve thought about going elsewhere but am afraid I would get a fine if I got caught so I’m being good right now. I have to say, a lot of people had the same idea I did but everyone was wearing masks. I’m always taken by this figures on this bridge. Line 6 going by up above. The light was pretty. This was about 9 am. The Eiffel Tower looks so awful ...

GOPers Are Trying to Recruit QAnon Voters And Using This YouTube Show to Do It

As she gathered support for what was then thought to be a long-shot primary bid against Rep. Scott Tipton (R-CO), congressional hopeful Lauren Boebert made an appearance on “Patriots’ Soapbox,” a YouTube channel with a devoted following that claims to broadcast “real news the MSM does not cover.”In her appearance, Boebert ran down her usual talking points: how she confronted former presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke over gun control, how the restaurant she owns stands out because of its open-c...

Venice 3

Exploring Venice is such a treat, especially if you love photography. The Fondaco dei Tedeschi is a beautiful high end shopping mall. I went there for this view from the terrace. It’s free but you have to have a reservation. It’s near the famous Rialto Bridge. The church right across the way from my hotel, the Santa Maria de Giglio, has the only Rubens in Venice. Look at this incredible interior! It sells clothing-Dolce and Gabbana. Only in Italy. The Acqu...

Color

A bit of color seen around my neighborhood in Paris. A florist by the name of Happy is also happy to be back. I bought some peonies which opened almost immediately. It makes me so happy just to look at them. Closeup. So beautiful. Spring berries for sale. I was looking at the sunset when I saw one of those long cargo boats go by. There weren’t any for a while but they are starting up again. Street traffic is picking up again too.

Under The Bridge

On our first real excursion since confinement we went to Pont Alexander III. I seldom go underneath but that is where we met a friend to stretch and then start a walk. The boats on the river get the best view. Pretty sculpture. Maybe a salamander. Side view. At first I thought this door was a storage entrance but it turned out to be the entrance to RER C, the train that goes through Paris and then to the outskirts of Paris.

Out and About

On May 11th France started a slow deconfinement. Many people, mostly young, used it as an excuse to get out with friends and drink in public places so a rule was passed that there could be no public drinking. I don’t know if that will stop groups from gathering on streets and along the Seine. In my case, it was windy so I didn’t go out wuss that I am. I did go out the next day to pick up a free mask at our mairie. It was nice to see some shops open, especially florists. There weren’t a whole l...

Meghan McCain Goes Off on Kayleigh McEnany for ‘Spinning Propaganda’

Meghan McCain, The View’s resident conservative host, tore into Kayleigh McEnany for “spinning propaganda” on Thursday morning after the new White House press secretary dismissed the need for increased coronavirus testing as the economy reopens.During her press briefing on Wednesday, McEnany said it was “nonsensical” to think that every American should be able to get tested for coronavirus, even though President Donald Trump said two months earlier that “anybody that wants a test can get a test....

View, the dynamic glass company that raised $1.1 billion from SoftBank in 2018, is laying people off

View, a 13-year-old, Milpitas, Calif.-based company that makes dynamic glass designed to reduce heat and glare as well as lessen eyestrain, has cut an unknown number of employees, including at a plant in Olive Branch, Mississippi. One employee of several years, an IT manager, wrote on LinkedIn that he was laid off owing to the pandemic. Another employee of the company for the better part of decade — an engineer and project manager — wrote on LinkedIn that he has also been laid off and that the c...

London Eye

We had a play to see in the neighborhood of the London Eye and walked around a bit looking around. We arrived as the sun was setting. It leans out over the water for some reason. I rode it the last time I was in London and had great views of the river below. We were across the river from Parliament. Big Ben is covered in scaffolding right now. This is called County Hall where one branch of the government once met. It now houses many things including the theatre of the p...

Up High

I’m loving our new apartment on the 23rd floor. As I have written before, I have become the Paris Weather Girl because I can see everything, even from across the room. In our old apartment I had to go right up and look up at an apartment across the courtyard to see if the wind was blowing their bushes around to know the weather. Rain too wasn’t that obvious. I feel like we are right up in the sky and I can see the weather and hear it too. I read that wind is common here in Europe this time of ye...

Neighborhood

A walk around my neighbourhood. In this view from our apartment I’ve become interested in the church you can see with the tall steeple sticking up and decided to walk over and have a look. It’s called Eglise Saint Léon. It has a straight strip of lights going up the steeple that we can see at night but I couldn’t see it up close during the day. An anniversary involving Sainte Genevieve. She’s the patron saint of Paris. The Eiffel Tower was nearby seen through what is ca...

This and That

Just a variety of photos taken with my new phone. The first photo I took with my new phone. I’m not sure if the camera is better than my old one yet. A restaurant near our place. It was our first time there. It had a very nice ambiance but was really overpriced so I don’t think we will return. A reflection of the Eiffel Tower on the wet sidewalk. A Muslim Princess? The Paris Weather Girl spots another great sunrise.

A Rainy Day

I love reflections and streets after a rain, especially at night which comes pretty early around here. Paris cafés always look so warm and welcoming when it’s getting dark and there has been rain. This place selling Russian caviar has some nice Christmas decorations. Nothing to do with rain but I saw these in Monoprix and thought: “Which one do I need-the gold one or the blue velvet one?” There was a great sunset as the rain moved on. It made me wish I was out by the...

More

More photos around Paris as I walked around. The exterior of a lovely restaurant across the street from where I ate. Pont Neuf crossing the Seine. As you can see, the trees are starting to change. This ancient clock still keeps the correct time. The elegant Crillon Hotel as seen from my bus. A Koons creation seen from the bus too. Those aren’t flowers by the way.

Paris Weather Girl

Since we now live in what they call a high rise in the States, I am right up in the sky with tremendous views and I see all sorts of weather and I get to enjoy sunrises and sunsets. I love weather, watching weather reports, looking at radar images to see if rain is coming. Instead of training to be a nurse, I should have become a meteorologist. Weather and photography are my passions. When you are young you don’t even know what your passions are, at least I didn’t. A fabulous sunrise one m...

Back

Finally, I am back in Paris. We did that great road trip on the West coast and I spent a lot of time with my mother. I had hoped our new place would be ready when I finally returned but, as is often the case with building or renovating, it wasn’t. Plus, the month of August was involved. Very little gets done in France in August. Everyone who can goes on vacation. I had seen some places on the ceiling that I thought was due to water leakage but was told it was just a bad paint job. It turns out I...
