Cinematic Batman Lips, Ranked

Last night, we got our very at Robert Pattinson suited up as the latest live-action incarnation of Batman. Glimpse is a diplomatic word for it, frankly—softly shot, lit in red, and barely lit at that, we did not get to see much of this new Batman. Not even a full cowl! Yes, that casino you saw in that movie or Netflix comedy is in Southern California

Some of Southern California’s casinos have reached iconic status with their giant hotel towers, expansive gaming floors and Vegas-style decor, so it’s no wonder they’re attracting guests and big name acts yearly but they’re also drawing another group — studios ready to shoot a movie or an episode of their next big TV show. Several large casinos in Southern California have served as stand-ins for major gambling locales such as Las Vegas or Atlantic City because of their proximity to Los Angeles-b...

Disney's live-action "Mulan" remake hits theaters in the US next month, but a China release date had not been set before nearly all of China's 70,000 movie theaters closed in response to the Wuhan coronavirus. This Batman producer reveals why Joker actors win Oscars

Michael Uslan can clearly see himself on a bench outside the offices of Columbia Pictures on the day of darkest despair for him and the Batman. It’s the early ’80s, and he and his producing partner Ben Melnicker had just run out of studios to pitch on Uslan’s dream of a new kind of Batman movie, one where Batman was a darker, more serious character than the campy caped crusader he’d been on TV in the ’60s (and at times in the comic books, too). “I had my head between my legs at this point — this...

The staggering number of HBO Max TV shows coming out far outstrips WarnerMedia's cable networks

Streaming originals made up 73% of WarnerMedia's TV commissions in Q4 2019, a dramatic increase from just 7% in Q4 2018, according to data firm Ampere Analysis. WarnerMedia is launching its Netflix competitor, HBO Max, in May and is investing heavily in original content for it. The number of WarnerMedia cable commissions decreased every quarter of 2019, according to Ampere Analysis. WarnerMedia is still investing in HBO, but it can be seen as fuel for HBO Max, which will include content from a...

Warner Bros. tweaks the name of its box office flop, 'Birds of Prey'

"Birds of Prey" brought in a disappointing box office this weekend, despite strong reviews. The poor showing is mostly because of its adults-only "R" rating and audiences' unfamiliarity with the film's heroes. But the lengthy and perplexing title probably didn't help the film's totals.

The box-office expectations for 'Birds of Prey' were too high and the movie could still be a win for DC and Warner Bros.

"Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)" opened below studio and analyst expectations over the weekend with $33 million. But the movie has made $81 million globally and had a production budget of $84.5 million. "Birds of Prey" is rated R and stars a cast of unknown characters (besides Harley Quinn), so expectations should better reflect that. The movie if a spinoff of "Suicide Squad," which has a "rotten" 59% Rotten Tomatoes audience score and could have also held...

BEGIN SLIDESHOW Birds of Prey: Warner Bros. changes long title after weak opening weekend After Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn’s opening weekend fell short at the Box Office with a domestic gross of $33.2 million (which is less than the initial projected numbers of $45-$55 million), Warner Bros. ‘Birds of Prey’ Gets a New Title in Theaters After Underperforming at the Box Office

Birds of Prey may have topped the box office last weekend, but it opened far lower than box office analysts predicted. Even the expectations from Warner Bros. Pictures were nearly $13 million higher than what the movie actually earned. And it sounds like the studio may have figured out what part of the problem is: the title. After being marketed as simply Birds of Prey, and occasionally by the comically longer title Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), the new t...

Why ‘Birds of Prey’ Whiffed at the Box Office

After the commercial successes of “Wonder Woman,” “Aquaman” and “Joker,” Warner Bros. had been on a hot streak with its DC Universe. Its latest comic-book offering, “Birds of Prey,” seemed to have all the ingredients necessary to continue that trend in the studio’s attempt to fashion an alternative to Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. But despite […]

‘Birds of Prey’ Writer Christina Hodson on Writing Harley Quinn and How ‘Trainspotting’ Influences Her Writing [Interview]

DC has been a good home to screenwriter Christina Hodson. After writing Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), DC and Warner Bros. hired Hodson to adapt two other comic book properties, including Batgirl. Based on the glowing reception to Birds of Prey, the studio now has another strong voice behind their comic book movies. They haven’t always this much sense of authorship and crystal clear vision. The Cast of Birds of Prey on the Balance of Bringing Their Comic Counterparts to Life

Birds of Prey’s colorful aesthetic is ripped right out of the world of comics, but the tack the movie takes with its comic book characters treads a fine line between respecting decades worth of stories and, in some cases, bringing new takes to the table.
