Infiniti's Car Designers Look to be Having a Helluva Lot of Fun

Last year Infiniti produced the Prototype 9, a retro-futuristic concept based on 1930s racecar designs. This year their creative team is again flexing their design muscles with the electric Prototype 10, which continues with the future-past theme, albeit advanced by several decades; this car takes its cues from 1960s roadsters. Introduced last week at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the Prototype 10 is the first project produced under the direction of Karim Habib, Infiniti's new Executi...

Jaguar's New I-Pace, Part 2: Going Over the Design Details with Production Studio Director Wayne Burgess

When designing a new car, the key consideration around which all other decisions must be based is where to put the engine. What happens when that engine disappears, and designers can start with a blank slate? During our introduction to the I-Pace, Jaguar's all-electric SUV, we got to hear from designer Wayne Burgess on the challenges and opportunities presented when designing an electric car from the ground up. As Director of Jaguar's Production Studio, Burgess is aware of why every surface, ...

Jaguar's New I-Pace, Part 1: Test Drive

Core77 was recently invited to test drive Jaguar's I-Pace, their new, category-bending all-electric SUV. Debuted as a concept car last year to critical acclaim--it won Most Significant Concept Vehicle of 2017 at the 16th North American Concept Vehicle Awards--the I-Pace was swiftly green-lit for 2018 production, and Core77 was on-site in Portugal with an assembled team of journalists selected to evaluate the freshly-rolled-out car. “Change like we’ve not seen in decades”—high-end auto designers go electric (ars technica)

Enlarge (credit: Jaguar) Change comes hard. And sometimes, it's slow. Until recently, no industry played closer to that model more than that of the automobile. Ever since the first series-produced cars of the 1900s placed the big internal combustion lump of iron at the front, the drive wheels at the back, and the passengers in the middle, the form factor of the automobile has stayed largely the same for 100 years. Variations have cropped up here and there—like rear-engine cars, front-drive car...

“Greatest Hits” Jaguar Created For Iron Maiden Drummer Nicko McBrain

Who said Jaguar is a stodgy old British company? If you did, this factory-custom 1984 XJ6 Series 3 they just turned out should dispel that notion. And if that’s not enough, look who they made it for: Nicko McBrain. Yes, that Nicko McBrain, the drummer for Iron Maiden. That doesn’t sound all that stodgy, now does it? Full disclosure here: I’m not much of an Iron Maiden fan. It’s not that I dislike them, it’s just that if I’m in the mood for some British heavy metal, my tastes run more toward Moto...
